A new State bird? Paint me pink, Sista...

This is from a website I just found called FloridaJolt.com.
The author's credit goes to a staff writer there - Tracy Caruso

After nearly a century of the northern mockingbird being our state bird, House lawmakers want to crown the American flamingo as our new state bird - translation: snooze-fest over, sparkle on. Since 1937, the drab mockingbird has perched in our history books, serenading no one in particular. But 2026 is the year of unapologetic fabulousness, and the flamingo is here to stomp those dull feathers straight out of Tallahassee. It’s like trading a rusty Schwinn for a fuchsia Corvette convertible - finally, our state bird matches our mood swings and our sunsets.
Credit where it’s due: Rep. Jim Mooney (R-Islamorada) took center stage with his House Bill 11, and Florida’s House didn’t just pass it—they flamenco’d it through in a hysterical 112–1 vote. One lonely no? Probably someone who thinks flamingos are just props for bad Bachelor parties.

Over in the Senate, Sen. Ana Maria Rodriguez (R-Miami) is strutting companion bill SB 150 through the upper chamber. If it passes, and Gov. DeSantis signs off, the sky officially turns pink on July 1.

What's Chicago without DaBears?

It's kinda like New York without the Jets and the Giants -  both of whom play in New Jersey...  The Chicago Bears and Indiana state law...
