According to CNN, Modelo and Corona are unexpected casualties of
Trump’s immigration crackdown. Aww, shucks...
I had read on more than one ocassion that Modelo was the No. 1 selling beer in the US, and thought that couldn't possibly be. I'd never ever seen anyone ordering one. But then again, I'm not hanging out at the bodega with mi amigos, either. Constellation Brands, the US owner of Modelo Especial and Corona, bet big on Latino customers for growth. But that strategy is unraveling under the Trump administration’s mass deportation push.
Many Latino consumers, both legal and illegal, are fearful of venturing out in public to stores, restaurants and bars due to the immigration enforcement blitz. Big parties and celebrations where beer often flowed have been scaled back or canceled. Job cuts in industries with large immigrant workforces have squeezed finances, as has a broader cost-of-living crunch.
Constellation’s sales have plunged, Modelo lost its top-selling beer spot to Michelob Ultra, and its stock has dropped nearly 40% this year, making it one of the worst-performing companies on the S&P 500.
Must be the case that all those landscapers and roofing crews ain't poppin' their heads out as much anymore. Maybe that's a good thing. Juss' sayin'...

We see these stupid kinda pop-up ads on different websites all the time. They link to click-bait websites that have little value beyond the views they generate for the owner of the site. One thing I have noted about the ads is that they're aimed - probably purposefully - at a lower-than-normal average brain level. Take this one. If you had an IQ above 140 (which I do), would you be stupid enough to click on it? The defense rests...

It’s cold now, but the next punch of Arctic air will take it to another level. More than 200 million people will wake up to freezing temperatures as the coldest air of the season spills across the Plains, Midwest, Great Lakes and into the Northeast.
This widespread plunge puts dozens of daily records in play. After several rounds of snow over the past week, the Midwest is now preparing for the coldest temperatures of the season.

Let's talk about this for half a minute. I normally make my own sauce in three gallon batches, but that's a story for another day. I actually will be doing another batch fairly soon, maybe I'll post on it.
Anyway, I always keep a couple of store-bought sauce jars in the pantry for dishes that don't require my own blend (like pizzas and lasangas), and I've tried both of these and I gotta tell ya, you'd be hard pressed to distinguish between the two in a blind test. Rao's is good - no doubt, but that level of quality isn't like homemade, and doesn't warrant the almost eight dollar price tag. Juss' sayin'...

Never seen anyone order a Modelo or Mic Ultra. Looks to be plenty of each on the shelves while old standbys of Bud (yes i know), Coors and Miller stock areas are a lot lower.
ReplyDeleteIf it's not a family secret, I would appreciate a good, authentic marinara sauce recipe (complete with techniques and how to).
