Netflix announced Friday that it has agreed to acquire Warner Bros. Discovery’s film studio and HBO assets, including the streaming service, for $82.7 billion, including debt. Netflix outbid media conglomerates Paramount and Comcast in a bidding war that began after Warner Bros. Discovery announced in June that it would split into two companies in mid-2026.
Who cares? Evidently, a lot of people, and maybe you should too if you're a fan of oldie flicks like me. The Warner film library is massive - everything from Key Largo with Bogie to the Wizard of Oz and thousands more. Damn near half of all the movies made before 1959, with few exceptions for those in the public domain. Why is that important? Simple - if you wanna hear Sam play 'Time goes by', you're probably gonna have to subscribe to Netflix or buy the DVD.
