Editors note - Mistletoe is a parasitic evergreen plant that grows on trees, taking
water and nutrients via specialized roots (haustoria) but also photosynthesizing.
It's famous for holiday traditions symbolizing love and peace, stemming from
ancient myths, but is a potential pest, causing stress or branch death in heavy
infestations, though it's generally not deadly to healthy trees. Mistletoe berries
and leaves are poisonous if eaten by humans, but birds spread the seeds.
