Making sense of SNAP giveaways - and other silliness...

In a move that actually appears to make sense in the Senate, a bill has been introduced in the Senate aiming to block the use of SNAP benefits at fast‑food restaurants, a move that could reshape how taxpayer funds are spent.
Senator Joni Ernst (R‑Iowa) argues that food assistance should prioritize actual groceries, not fast‑food chains like Burger King and Taco Bell. With growing concerns over how taxpayer dollars are being allocated, the bill has the potential to spark a much-needed and possibly heated debate on the future of welfare programs.
Ernst’s bill is a direct challenge to practices that most people who aren't moochers living off the dole see as wasteful and out of line with the original intent of SNAP.

The first human to have ever been infected with the H5N5 strain of bird flu has died, Washington state health officials confirmed late Friday. The person was an older adult with underlying health conditions, the Washington State Department of Health said in a news release.
The person had a backyard flock of mixed domestic birds. No other details were released out of respect of the family’s privacy.

I had no idea so many stores are not accepting our national currency - the backstop currency for every country on this planet - for purchases in their stores. Large chains like Target, Lowes, Home Depot and Walmart, in an effort to cut back on labor costs, have gone to cashless-only payment systems, eliminating the need for cashiers.
Ohio lawmakers are considering the “CASH” bill, which would require businesses and government offices to accept cash for payments up to $500 — and ban them from charging extra for it.

Yeah - lemme know how that works out...

This is the work that I kinda miss the most. Tile backsplashes are not as easy as they look with all the cutting and work-arounds that are involved, but the time and effort is worthwhile when you can produce something like this one. I finished this kitchen just over a year ago, one of the last ones I did before I hung up my grout float. Took me three days, start to finish. I especially liked doing the inserts like the one over the range here. Wuddya think?

Is this AI shit really this good - or is this just a one-in-a-million coincidence? This ad popped up yesterday on a website. They missed my service time, but the name and the Branch? WTF - do they know too much of everything or what...

  2. I don't get fries or a drink. Water is fine. It's the only way I can afford to get a burger. That is a Rare treat. Bacon, sausage, burger, I cook. Stuff TO cook? Holy Schitt!
I can't wait to see how many fast food joints crash by taking MY money away from them.

The Oakland-Fed stuff? TDS is real.
Yesterday the the 62nd anniversary of the day the cabal assumed control, a businessman/politician was put in charge and there were no more questions asked about whether the war in Viet Nam was a civil war or not.

  4. On your Tile backsplashes my wife never likes them. She likes the solid flat that is down next to the sink on the backsplash as it is easier to clean. She is a lover of Soapstone.

  5. Nice back splash.

Fast food never should have been allowed on SNAP. Fast food was a way to make food cost more than it should. Door dash said "hold me beer."

Death Valley National Park stopped taking cash. I asked one of the rangers why. He said the cost of the armored truck to haul the cash to Las Vegas cost twice as much as the cash being hauled. I prefer using cash. Some places still give a cash discount. For some, handling the cash costs too much.

  6. Great news about Oakland, CA. If I didn't have a son and his family there, I wouldn't give a shit.

  7. I like the tile job!

About the handouts for fast food...I hate to think of electronic benefits taking trade away from small local businesses and feeding it to big chains, but can the control freaks admit that many poor people do not have kitchens? If they're going to eat meat or eggs, realistically, somebody's going to have to cook those things. And it's more pleasant for everyone if they can sit down and eat with flatware and wash their hands, rather than eating with their hands and wiping their hands on their shirts.

Do the busybodies WANT poor people to eat things like eggs and apples and bean soup, or do they want poor people to stick to the poor diet many of them prefer--candy, chips, sugary cereals, "energy drinks," things that are meant to be grabbed and gobbled right out of the packaging?

As for the cash bill? We need a constitutional amendment. If the government has the power to coin/print money, then that money must be the national standard of trade. The money-handling industry (parasites!) need to feel a heavy, heavy push back against efforts to prevent people paying in cash. There need to be NO restrictions on the amount of cash people can use, and there needs to be a legally recognized right to charge up to 10% IF a business accepts a third party payment.

    1. Have you been to a grocery store recently? How about the grocery section of Walmart.? Even if you don't have a kitchen, there are plenty of options that beat fast food. I know several people on SNAP. One lives in a shed without running water or plumbing. She does have an electric skillet. She is too lazy to cook her own meals, gets fast food all the time, and could eat way better if she used what she has and used the grocery store instead of McDonald's. Eggs and apples do not require a kitchen...you can get precooked eggs. Bean soup? Which fast food joint serves bean soup? (which I eat straight from the can anyway). By the way, the majority of the people on SNAP have kitchens. Holding up the minority extreme as your baseline is dishonest.

  9. I like your kitchen; my wife will not have grouted tile.
cash: too much of it disappeared into the cashiers' pockets so many stores just stopped accepting it as their profits dropped towards zero and their cashiers became wealthy
