Remember Nancy Pelosi's now infamous 'We have to vote on it to see what's in it' quip? Well, if somebody had read it, they might have seen what a disastrous effect that one bill would have on our healthcare system.
Laws like that one can stifle competition through government mandates, which create barriers to entry or protect existing businesses, or by enabling existing monopolies to harm smaller competitors through practices like price fixing.
How can some laws can stifle competition?

This is one of the 'town squares' here in The Villages. One of the things that stands out the most, and to me is the strangest aspect of living here, is how dependant so many of the people here are on their golf carts. It's said there are 145,000 residents in the development, and there are 125,000 golf carts to go along with it all. Fuck - I know five or six people/couples who don't even own a car. The dog thing is right, I've had very expensive, pure inbred Boykin Spaniels for years, spent many dollars on their health & still lost . Rescued a little whatever it is & just feed it. And don't even think about getting a Labrador, they are the worst. Birdchasher.
