Cars & auto equipment are the highest value import in 14 U.S. states. Computers & electronics (including phones and chips) are the top import in another 9 states.
Together these two categories - targets of on-again, off-again tariffs - are the top import in about half of all states.
Phones, Computers, and Cars Are Major Trade War Targets - Currently, electronics have been exempted from tariffs placed on China, but there is no indication for how long these suspensions will last. Meanwhile, cars imported to the U.S. are attracting a 25% tariff fee. Automakers are already feeling the pressure. Stellantis paused production at two factories and laid off hundreds of workers. Volkswagen said they'd pass on price increases to their customers. A tariff on auto parts is disrupting supply chains further. Ya know what we usta say - Joke 'em if they can't take a fuck...
