The 442nd Regimental Combat Team was a segregated unit composed almost entirely of Japanese Americans, many of whom had family members interned in camps during the war.
Despite facing discrimination and prejudice, the unit fought with exceptional bravery and distinction in the European Theater, particularly in Italy and France.
They are known for their numerous acts of heroism and sacrifices, including the rescue of the "Lost Battalion" in France.
The 442nd Regimental Combat Team earned more than 18,000 individual decorations, including 21 Medals of Honor, making them the most decorated unit in U.S. military history for its size and length of service.

Yet we incarcerated many thousands of people of Japanese descent in concentration camps, the vast majority being US born citizens.
