Demonstrators had attempted to block a number of government SUVs from entering and exiting the facility, which has become an operating hub and detention location during an immigration crackdown in the Democratic city dubbed “Operation Midway Blitz”.
At least three protesters were arrested during the scuffles, which saw masked homeland security agents, dressed in riot gear, fire pepper balls at protesters from a rooftop and launch multiple canisters of teargas. One agent stood with what appeared to be an unholstered firearm. The facility is lined with razor wire, and its windows are boarded with plywood.
Kat Abughazaleh (that's some friggin' moniker, isn't it? Sounds like somebody puked up a bunch of Scrabble tiles), a somewhat actually kinda cute Gen Z TikToker progressive candidate for Illinois’s ninth congressional district, had sat at an entrance to the facility, alongside dozens of other protesters, before teargas was launched into the crowd. Earlier in the morning she was shoved to the ground by a masked agent as a group of vehicles entered the facility.
Maybe some day she'll figure out that that isn't exactly what 'Stand your ground' means. In her case it meant 'Stand your ground and you'll end up face down on it'. Juss' sayin'...

it is my understanding that there is an Chinese proverb reading "Shoot One. Educate a Thousand". Makes sense to me. Consequences. There needs to be more of them.

Kat Abughazaleh, like Josh Schapiro of Pa., are the folks we need to keep an eye on. They have ideas, hers whacky and his more mainstream, and they will attract a lot of support, not unlike Ocasio-Cortez. Kat's opponent in the race is 80 years old, has been there for 15 terms since 1999, and seems to be turning Bideneaque in her confusion and incapacity. Kat is half Palestinian, so she'd likely not support Shapiro, and comes from big family money. She may be a flash in the pan, but maybe not.
