The price of everything...

We all understand that prices rarely go down unless it's a specific promotion like the Amazon one this Labor Day weekend, but lately the price of everything is scary...

Waffle House may be a Southern institution known for its 24/7 breakfasts, scattered hash browns, and viral fights, but these days, it's your wallet taking the hit. One Reddit user kicked off a post by asking, "Moved back South and Waffle House seems comically expensive compared to old prices?" They recalled the All-Star Special being around $8 just a few years ago. Now? Nearly $13 in some areas. The pricing can be the result of the restaurant's egg surcharges. A user who chimed in from Mississippi noted, "An order of eggs is now $3.60. I used to get biscuits, gravy, and two eggs for $5–$6. Now it's right under $12 for the same thing.
So, why bother mentioning this? Because ain't nuthin' costs what it usta cost, and it probably ain't gonna cost that again, so grin and bare it, Bubba...

Cracker Barrel has long been a go-to for reasonably-priced road trip breakfasts and front porch nostalgia, though the chain is slowly shedding the cozy charm that made it famous. And it's getting pricey.

It isn't cheap any more, by any measure. For a simple breakfast, two orders of Momma's Pancake Breakfast (a popular choice) would be around $25-$30, and that's excluding drinks and tips.

The photographer Edouard Boubat titled this shot 'The cabaret dancer' Taken back in the 1950s, it still resonates a mood. The original was B&W, but I think this colorized version is more impactfull. Were it taken today, she'd be staring at her phone instead of reading a novel.

A lottery jackpot paid to an individual is taxable as unearned income. The cash prize, already reduced, would then be subject to the highest federal income tax bracket of 37%.Federal tax owed: Approximately $220.89 billion.
If you live in a high income tax state like California or New York, that would shave an additional $ 80,000,000 or so, so you walk with just under 300mil. Juss' sayin'...

I wonder how many Chicago cops would jump

Saying stupid shit like this somehow diminishes what she might have actually wanted to say. Making the parallel between the two is stupid. The kid shooter wasn't a Muslim. He was a confused, fucked up crossdresser who's parents obviously did a really fucked up job of raising him/her/she/whateverthefuck.

Bare - to expose or make naked
Bear - to tolerate, carry or a mammal of ursine origins.
And yeah, nothing is returning to "what it used to cost" unless we end the Fed, embrace deflation (upping the value of the dollar) and return to non fiat currency, backed by gold, silver or some other mix of rare/high value tangible asset to support it, with the actual exchange value to issued metal coin at the bearer's demand. I for one would love to go back to actual silver content coinage, gold coinage and the ability to buy breakfast for a dollar or less. In 1979 I recall getting a full breakfast, 2 eggs, 2 flaps, 3 strips of bacon and coffee in mid-town Manhattan for under 3 bucks and this was the Carter era economy, let alone earlier, filling my VW with fuel at 29 cents/gallon when there was a price war on in Rochester NY (1972). Yes I am that old.

  4. I like the concept behind the price parity map. The only problem is the colors are, um, all over the map. California is dark blue at 115. North Dakota is also dark blue at 89. They should have used ROYGBIV with green being 100, red being the lowest, and blue the highest. And, yes. I realize you didn't make the map. Great idea though.

  5. Linking the trans shooter to the Muslims was probably a cheap shot, but given the level of antisemitism, it would be interesting to know if he was influenced by their world view or not. The trans lunatics and the Muslims currently have common ground against American values (the enemy of my enemy is my friend). Once Sharia law takes hold, gays and trans will be wiped out.

  6. I was in Waffle House for breakfast the last time back in May, as I recall a sausage-hashbrown bowl, cup of coffee and tip used up a $20 dollar bill...

  7. Don't be getting down on Waffle House price increases. I appreciate Waffle House providing martial arts training for all staff to keep their customers safe and don't mind paying a bit extra for peace of mind.

  8. The power ball payout math isn't correct in several ways... 37% of 1.2 Billion is 444 Million over 20 years, or 214 Million if you take the 579 Million as a cash payout, and CA along with Florida, New Hampshire, Puerto Rico, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, U.S Virgin Islands, Washington State, Wyoming does not levy state income tax on their residents.
