Matt Quinn, the service's deputy director, told CBS News that the gathering in Butler, Pennsylvania, when Matthew Crooks fired at Trump and killed another attendee, was an "operational failure".
One of Crooks's bullets grazed the ear of Trump, who was then rushed to safety. The attacker was shot dead.
"Secret Service is totally accountable for Butler," he explained. "Butler was an operational failure and we are focused today on ensuring that it never happens again."
Quinn added that he was "laser-focused on fixing the root cause of the problem", but his organisation would not "fire our way out of this".
He also said that a number of improvements had already been made, involving military-grade drones and improved mobile command posts that could now be used by agents in the field.

Have you ever tried one of these?
We got turned on to these by my Brother TJ probably 20 years ago while we were at his house in Belfast. Over in Ireland, they have a 'wee cuppa' - how they say 'tea' - three or four or more times a day.
Anyway, we have one in our kitchen and it's great for a coupla reasons. First and foremost, Babs and I are tea drinkers, so there's that. The other thing is, if you fill this thing full and turn it on, it gets the water to baoil in about a minute.
Use that water to start your pasta in, and you're eating easily 15 minutes sooner. Juss' sayin' - I like it. Click on the picture and get one for yourself. This is the tea we like, also from Belfast:
It's also available on Amazon here.

Now explain why the eff bee eye hosed down the crime scene immediately and why the shooters connections to Blackrock and others haven't been released. This is more than just incompetence.
ReplyDeleteWe've been using a water boiler for several years, it's useful!
ReplyDeleteAn electric kettle boils slower in the US than in Europe, unless you can find a 240V kettle locally and have a matching outlet in the kitchen.
ReplyDelete"laser-focused on fixing the root cause of the problem", but his organization would not "fire our way out of this".
ReplyDeleteBecause if they did, they'd have to go back to Chris and Sam Colt, James T West, and Artemus Gordon to find credible replacements.
And now how about the folks that paid for and orchestrated the attempt?
ReplyDeleteMy wife bought a similar one many years and after her disability meal prep fell to me. This greatly shortens prep time for rice and pasta dishes. An air frier does wonders for meat from bacon to beef. They won't replace the stove and oven but do save me time. note: I was a bachelor till 33 and my mother was a home ec teacher without daughters. I can do housework just fine. It's yardwork on 5 acres that does me in. Love that water boiler!
ReplyDeleteUnless, and until the Secret Service decide to change their oh-so Superior attitude and cooperate with local Law Enforcement for a decent perimeter and coordinated force for security, it can happen again. They refused to cooperate with the Butler PD, (and state and county) and weren't even tied into the radio nets.
ReplyDeletePlus, I firmly believe that the whole thing was planned and, were it not for the fortuitous movement by Trump, he'd have been shot in the head.
Crooks was a patsy, Lee Harvey Oswald, as it were. The real assassin was just under the roof line shooting through a 6 inch (or smaller) hole. When he missed, he simply left and blended in with the crowd. Likely his rifle was broken down in less than a minute, stock folded, barrel and action in a backpack (or hidden in the barn) and he simply melted away.
Crooks is dead, so no one is defending him. Patsy.
You find Dowe Egbert Dessert coffee and I'll be interested in the ads.
