Going down the list, Hawaii is a bit of a surprise, only because it's so expensive to live there. New Jersey makes perfect sense to me. Having been born in and raised in the state, I get it completely. We usta call it the 'cigar box stash'. Everybody I knew had some kinda stash of cash hiding somewhere in their house - or the garage, or the garden shed, or at the goomad's apartment - somewhere.
I don't do it any more, so don't get any kinda ideas out there. I am surprised a bit about Florida being so low on the list, but then again, nobody here uses cash in stores. I've seen 'em use a debit card for a fuckin' Slurpee.
Oh, wait a minute. They're talking about having liquid assets in brokerage and savings accounts. Never mind...

We always keep a couple grand in bills upstairs, five C notes in the kitchen cookie jar. For the handyman/emergent expense.

ReplyDeleteI don’t know any guy who can’t lay his hands on a few hundred to maybe a grand his wife doesn’t know about. One friend has six-figures his wife doesn’t know about. I’m in the $2500 range but it’s not in the sock drawer

ReplyDeleteBank balance has been falling $1k a month thanks to bidenflation. Had 12k in cash 2 yrs ago down 7k+ in 2 yrs. Thanks government for destroying my retirement while you live high on the hog.
