Flag Day, celebrated annually on June 14th, commemorates the adoption of the United States flag by the Second Continental Congress in 1777. It's a day to honor the American flag and reflect on the ideals of freedom, liberty, and justice it represents. While not a federal holiday, Flag Day is observed across the nation with various patriotic displays and activities.
On June 14, 1777, the Second Continental Congress passed a resolution establishing the design of the American flag – thirteen stripes alternating red and white, with a blue field containing thirteen stars. The flag symbolizes the unity, freedom, and ideals of the United States. It represents the nation's history, values, and the sacrifices made to uphold them.
While Flag Day was first widely observed in the late 1800s, it gained official recognition in 1916 when President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed it a national day of observance. People often display the American flag at their homes and businesses, participate in parades, attend flag-raising ceremonies, and engage in other patriotic activities. Flag Day is part of National Flag Week, a period designated for reflecting on the foundations of American freedom and reaffirming loyalty to the nation.

There are just a few things I miss about not living in Jersey any more. Certainly, I had some dear friends there and miss them some, and I'd give my left nut to have a good hard roll and butter in the morning here, but that ain't gonna happen unless some kinda miracle happens.
I desperately miss my veggie garden up there - Tomatoes, peppers, onions, eggplant, carrots, zucchini, garlic, eggplant, you name it, it grew well up there. Rains too much here for almost everything to thrive.

There is a 'no kings parade' scheduled for Sumter Landing here in The Villages today by the 30 or so libs who live here amongst us. I've also heard rumors (from the Legio Hall last night, actually) that Army Veteran bikers from the area are planning a 'counter-protest parade' of bikes at the same time in the same place. THAT should be interesting...

Even Joan Rivers, Jay Leno and Joey Bishop were better than any of these late-night goofballs they have on now. The one guy who used to be on SNL is the most tolerable of the bunch, but I guess we're spoiled having grown up with Carson. Juss' sayin'...

About 2,000 "No Kings" protests are planned Saturday in response to the Trump administration's plans to hold a large-scale military parade this weekend. Organizers are accusing the president of putting on the parade as a show of dominance and a celebration of his 79th birthday, which is also on Saturday. The Army has been planning some form of anniversary celebration for over a year, but the parade was a recent addition. It will commemorate the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Army, and falls on Flag Day. A peacetime military parade is rare in the U.S. and has drawn criticism from Trump's political rivals, none of whom has anything good to say about anything...

Jeez. I wanted to use this in some context or other to relate to today's parade, but then I got locked on to the fact that this took place thirty four fuckin' years ago. Good god, that is just insane. How does time pass so quickly?
