The Department of Veterans Affairs has projected that the number of living WWII veterans has fallen below 0.5% of the total number of Americans who served in the conflict. The agency’s 2024 projection, based on the 2022 American Community Survey from the Census Bureau, estimates that there are approximately 66,000 WWII veterans still living.
A total of 16.4 million Americans served during the war. More than 400,000 were killed in action or died of other causes during the conflict. The latest number represents a substantial decline from the more than 119,000 veterans of the war the VA estimated were living in 2023.

ReplyDeleteOf those 16.4 million who served in WWII only 1.6 million ever saw actual combat. The rest were in logistics, supply, maintenance etc. My dad was a combat engineer who's been gone since 1999.

ReplyDeleteI agree that the parade was kind of disappointing. There needed to be explosions and tanks doing burnouts. Firing squads for the Jan 6th committee. Low flying helicopters chasing down and strafing activist judges. But those criticizing this have never attended any military parade. You think the Russian and Chinese parades are any better? (I do like those Chinese girls in short skirts).
ReplyDeleteAt the very least they could have had Abrams tanks firing MPAT rounds at billboard photos of Stacey Abrams across the Potomic in Arlington and snipers with Barrett 50BMG rifles blowing holes in a Nancy Pelosi billboard on Capitol Hill.
