Let's go 'Down the shore' she said. And then we went to Keansburg. Yikes...

This photo of  the 'boardwalk' in Keansburg in 1978 is a little dated, but that's what we found when we got there. The town and the beach there are actually not on the Atlantic Ocean at all - it's on Raritan Bay - the bay that's between NY and NJ.

 

It is directly across the bay from Staten Island, the infamous home of the 'Jersey Shore' cast from MTV. Here's a little tour:

 

I have to admit that the town has most likely 'grown up' and been gentrified since I was there 40+ years ago, but the truth is, it had too. It was an unmitigated shithole back in the 70's. I guess it's proximity to the city is it's big draw now, but back then it was a place you didn't wanna even drive through, out of fear you might break down. Juss' sayin'...
