And my Mom took me with her to Bloomfield Center to
do her shopping. My reward? Lunch at Woolworths...
It was always a very special day for me - and her. We'd sit at the counter, always. I was too short so my feet didn't reach the floor, so I'd endlessly be swinging my legs back and forth, in between her knuckling me trying to make me 'sit still, dammit...' Anyway, the lunches were always good - especially if I could have mashed potatos. I mean, what kid gets smashed for lunch, right? Great memories, these...
10 cent Cokes and beef stew for 50 cents. Wow.
...
Here's a great idea for a gift for
her for no reason at all. Remember -
July 4th is next Friday...

Hello. The image and recollection of Woolworth's is very interesting. And the colors of the image are quite vibrant!
ReplyDeleteGoing to Woolworth's for a club sandwich was a highlight of visiting the grandparents. Simpler times. Thanks for the memory.
ReplyDeleteThe boardwalk at Ocean City, Maryland, when we'd "go down the aishen" as my Baltimore relatives would say. And yep, lunch at the "5 and dime," too. Nice.
