all headed to the boardwalk for 'junk food night'...
In 1963, the Wildwood, New Jersey boardwalk was a popular destination for tourists, known for its lively atmosphere and attractions. The boardwalk featured a variety of shops, restaurants, and amusement piers, including the popular Hunt's Pier. The song "Wildwood Days" by Bobby Rydell was released that year and reached #17 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, further solidifying the boardwalk's cultural significance.
Hunt's Pier was a major attraction, offering rides and entertainment. Mack's Pizza had four locations on the boardwalk.
Weekday specials at Nate's hot dog stands, with deals like 4 or 5 hot dogs for $1. Tram car rides, pizza at Mack's Pizza - a quarter a slice - my favorite, and waffles with ice cream were all available for 25¢ each.
The release of Bobby Rydell's "Wildwood Days" song in 1963 added to the boardwalk's popularity and became a cultural touchstone. The boardwalk was a vibrant and bustling place, attracting visitors from everywhere and creating a safe, fascinating place to be in the summer months - especially us kids.
