US researchers have found that taurine, an amino acid often added to energy drinks such as Red Bull and Celsius, can act as a fuel source for leukemia cancer cells, which develop in bone marrow. The study authors have since warned consumers to exercise caution when consuming drinks containing the metabolism boosting ingredient, which are sold at supermarkets around the world. “Since taurine is a common ingredient in energy drinks… our work suggests that it may be of interest to carefully consider the risks and benefits of supplemental taurine in leukemia patients,” the study, published in Nature, claims.
So it just goes to show you, in case you didn't quite get it, that pretty much everything we do, eat, drink, inhale, sniff, even look at, will probably kill you one way or another. As Danny Sugerman and Jerry Hopkins once famously said, 'No one gets out of here alive'...
