The blowback from Springstein's rants in Manchester continue.
It appears shit really does roll down hill...
A Bruce Springsteen cover band has been canceled from playing at Riv’s Hub - a nightclub/restaurant in Toms River, NJ due to politics.
Musician Guy Fleming said “I can't really believe this happened, but it did. I'm slightly reluctant to share, however I feel it's in the best interest of my friends and fellow musicians in New Jersey, especially the Toms River area. My band, No Surrender, was scheduled to perform May 30 at Riv's Toms River Hub. We were hired as a Bruce Springsteen tribute act.
Unfortunately, the owner contacted us after Bruce made comments that upset him. The owner told us he didn't want us playing in his club. Our response was simple. We understood it was his establishment, and felt terrible he was that upset. We offered to play completely different music. Explaining to him that all nine people in the band are professional musicians that play in numerous different bands, and when you book us months in advance, we blackout those dates as booked. And when you cancel a week in advance, it financially hurts the musicians in the band because they lose a days pay if they can't find another gig.
I explained to the owner that he wasn't hurting Bruce, but he was hurting nine New Jersey musicians he booked to play at his club. He said, "his clientele and Toms River is red and won't tolerate his bullshit." I explained that we wouldn't play any Springsteen music. Still he said no.
Additionally, No Surrender is not the first Boss tribute band to be affected by Trump and Springsteen’s mutual ire. In 2017, the B Street Band — the preeminent local act covering Bruce’s tunes — was widely vilified after it was booked to play a Trump inaugural ball in Washington (Trump himself was not expected to attend). They eventually withdrew from the gig.

The Senate voted yesterday to overturn California’s controversial rule requiring all new vehicles to be zero-emission by 2035, in a rebuke to the largest and most concerted effort to phase out fossil fuels in US history.
Lawmakers voted 51-44 to scrap a Biden administration-era waiver allowing Sacramento to enact the sweeping rule intended to do away with new gas-powered cars and trucks.

Australians’ proud reputation as a pack of cunning linguists has taken a hit from a study finding they come only third in the swearing stakes online. The research found Australians were more restrained – online, at least – than potty-mouthed Brits and us oh-so-vulgar Americans.
“What the feck?” as the Irish would say – “feck” being their preferred profanity relative to other countries’ use of the word. For the British it’s “cunt”, and for the US it’s “asshole”. For Australians, disappointingly, it’s “crap”.

The penny was one of the first coins made by the US Mint, entering circulation in 1793. But over the past 10 years, the cost of producing it has risen from 1.3 cents to 3.69 cents per coin, according to the Treasury. The Mint estimates that stopping production will result in an immediate annual saving of $56m in reduced material costs.

ReplyDeletewell I'm not from Toms River but I lived in Brick for a while. When I hear a Springstein (yes I know that's not how he spells it) on the radio, I change the channel. Been doing that for years. He started to go off the rails with the "darkness on the Edge of Town" album IMHO. If I still had any Springstein vinyl or CDs I would discard them with prejudice. The guy is a victim of his own echo chamber and like The Good Lord said, one can only redeem oneself through repentance.
ReplyDeleteWhen ruling on zero emission vehicles all of the emissions made while creating them from rare earth materials and the cost of recycling should be included. Same with solar panels and wind generators.
ReplyDeleteA tribute band is worse because you are idolizing someone elses' bad behavior.
ReplyDeleteALWAYS REMEMBER....the production costs of a penny have NOT magically increased. The WORTHLESS, CRIMINAL CENTRAL BANK - aka, the Federal Reserve, in collusion with the Treasury and the US government, has DESTROYED THE PURCHASING POWER of the dollar to such an extent, that it is too expensive to even produce basic currency anymore (something government claims the monopoly on). The purposeful destruction of the gold standard by FDR and Nixon fully sealed the deal.
ReplyDeleteWith regard to "The Boss" ... I lived in Philly for many years. Bruce Springstein was lauded as a 'near God' for what seemed like forever. When they announced a concert for a local venue and before online ticket sales, the tickets sold out in a few hours. Then sometime during the Nobama years, Springstein made an announcement that an upcoming free outdoor concert where he was going to perform that was going to be along the Ben Franklin Parkway was not going allow anyone who did not fully support the half-white president. That was the exact moment that "The Boss" became the azz to me.
ReplyDeleteI don't understand:

Assisted suicide may only be legal on 5 states, but I'm willing to bet that it currently exists in all 50. Mother in law and a brother in law were both recently euthanized with morphine and starvation. Doctors had thrown in the towel on both of them and decided that making them comfortable and letting them die was the best for the insurance comapnies bottom line.
ReplyDeleteTo be fair, I dont know how much of it was suicide versus euthanasia.
