Sure, now they tell me...

As my friend Deisher woulda said: 'It's not rocket surgery'. Bad habits like smoking, heavy drinking and lack of exercise start taking their toll at the age of 36, researchers have claimed. Ditching unhealthy vices early in life was found to boost the odds of having a happy and healthy old age.
Seriously - did we really need an extensive 'study' to figure this shit out? Of course smoking'll fuck your lungs up, and who hasn't gotten behind the wheel of their blue 2005 F-150 after more than a coupla pops?
Anyway, for this study, these tree sturgeons tracked the health of hundreds of children born in 1959 until they were 61. (Thank god I was born in '53 or this shit would apply to me, too). They found those who consistently smoked, boozed and lounged around in their younger years ended up sicker and more depressed. Crucially, their health started to decline at the age of 36. Ya see, I'da thought my health started to decline the minute I was born, but what the fuck do I know, right?

  1. WaddaloadOfShit.. It depends on how you lived. I ran a sub five minute mile in high school. Roughnecked, rode a ten speed, I WAS in great shape. The Stewpid crap I did didn't seem to have much negative impact before I was mid forties.

  2. I was lucky that I never liked the taste of any kind of booze or smoke.

  3. Your mileage may vary, of course. I was living in London when I turned 36, and that was just about the time I was able to actually afford to drink as much as I cared to (Which I did!). Pubs were full of smokers and the locals took to drinking as an active participation sport. I'm 63 and have had no big medical problems, although a bunch of my old colleagues are no longer with us. I attribute my health as luck and being a non-smoker. YMMV in Palatka.

  4. Hearing my dad's cough for years and then seeing him literally cough up chunks of his lungs in the last month of his live was very helpful for me deciding to NEVER use this crap.

  5. I quit smoking 16 yrs ago on Apr 15. The maff tells me I saved just under $50,000 smackers.
Now I can buy better booze. Win-win? I'd say so

  6. I started smoking in earnest at age 15. I got up to two packs a day in my last 20's. I then quit at age 32 and gained a ton of weight. Why? Because as an adult, I got me sense of taste back and food was really good. I then started running and lost all of my excess weight and ran for 30+ years. I did not give up booze until I was almost 60. I have been off booze for almost 20 years. Yes, I feel good.

  7. I am living proof that this is bullshit. I'll be 80 in Sept, smoke a pack a day of Lucky's, Vodka and water from 7-9 evenings.
Golf 3-4 days a week. I know it will eventually catch up to me but it was a nice ride.

Tidy up or pay the fiddler...

This house is about four blocks from my house, and, yes, it is a shithole. A Villager has been given one week to remove debris from his prop...
