Our European friends might think of Jersey guys as walking, talking episodes of “Jersey Shore*,” perpetually fist-pumping and tanning on the beach. Maybe they think New Jersey natives communicate solely through dramatic hand gestures and “fuhgeddaboudit” catchphrases. The reality is I probably know eight guys who look almost exactrly like the AI rendering.
Apparently, these people do see us natives of New Jersey as spaghetti-loving messes. But New Jersey has beautiful shorelines, 'diverse' cities, and some killer pizza (not just pasta). So, Europeans, maybe you should spend some time there - visit Jersey and see that there’s more to it than the stereotypes. Just don't go out alone at night.
(*None of the people on the show Jersey Shore were from NJ - they were all from Staten Island)

Regarding those europeans and their thinking regarding 'muricans. They always say how urbane they are; because they are "world travelers". You ever see a european taking "holiday" in the US? Nope, neither have I. They are world travelers; only in the european union. They don't get out much to see other cultures.
ReplyDeleteBeing from the west coast I used to think of the northeast as dirty, smokey and full of run down factories and tenements. I was surprised when I watched a video showing lots of beautiful countryside.

ReplyDeleteIn Commifornia gas and property taxes are way up in 25 years. Local sales taxes are up as well as vehicle licensing "fees". And everything has a "fee" or license requirement.
ReplyDeleteThe Washington State constitution forbids an income tax, and initiatives to institute one have been voted down many times, and both the IRS and 49 states define capital gains as income, so one might think that the people and constitution of Washington have both forbidden any income tax. Our Dear Leaders and the leftist compliant state Supreme Court, however, have deemed this tax to be an excise tax on gains exceeding $250,000 resulting from the sale of assets. So, our state constitution and democracy are overthrown so the piggy pols can take more of our money for their failure programs. The result has already been the exodus of Jeff Bezos, and many high earners will follow. Bezos' departure has cost the state multiple millions, which anyone with half a brain predicted. Like me.
ReplyDeleteTrust me, you don't want to live in one of those 'no tax' states!! There may be no state INCOME tax, but the sales taxes are awful!!! Actually, just kidding. The zero income tax states are also generally the bottom of the overall burden list too - but we'd rather you didn't notice. When I moved from a tax-em high northern state to an unnamed no-tax southern state, I got a $15,000 raise; today, it'd be more like 25000. Move cost 12000. Once.

Expanding NATO to Russian border? Ukraine genociding ethnic CIA and US State Department running a color revolution to overthrow the elected Ukrainian government? Russians in the Donbas? Biolabs? US military running most of the advanced weaponry we provided Ukraine? Russian rockets hit Poland? (Nope, Ukrainian ones.)
ReplyDeleteAnonymous 11:20AM. Me too. I was born and raised in the good half of California and finally made my first trip East. Beautiful countryside to tour. I've never been impressed with cities so I avoided them as much as possible. As for New Jersey, I've never been there but, I will eventually. They can't all be like the South Park episode "It's a Jersey Thing".
