Personally, I'd say Cracker Barrel has the best. They use applewood-smoked bacon, lettuce, tomato, and mayo on toasted sourdough.
Chick-fil-A serves a BLT with crispy bacon, tomatoes, and lettuce on a toasted bun.
Wendy's Offers an Avocado BLT Chicken Sandwich with crispy chicken, bacon, lettuce, tomato, and avocado.
IHOP actually has a pretty good one, also. IHOP serves their BLT with hickory-smoked bacon, lettuce, tomato, and mayo on toasted white bread.
Of course, nobody can beat my mother's BLT on toasted Wonder Bread, but that just remains a memory.
Do you guys know something I don't? Chime in...

Being able to present what my wife creates is the best reason I have
for doing this, and besides, what else would I do with all this free time?
Anyway, when you buy her gifts of the jewelry Barbara makes, you do three things: You show your support for this blog, you get a great gift and you get it at a very good price. Just click on that picture of some of her work to see what she has available today.

I remember Arby's making a Yuuuge BLT and it was messy. Not sure if they still do, I don't eat fast food intentionally, nowadays.
ReplyDeleteFor the insane price of these, you could make 10 at home.
ReplyDeleteI loved the BLT's and the Club sandwiches at Woolworth's. Yeah, I'm that fucking old!

Costs me about 40 bucks to make about 10# of bacon.
ReplyDeleteStore bought shit is not the way to make a good BLT.

It's not just the quality, it's the quantity. One transparently thin slice of hothouse grown tomato doesn't cut it. One or two undersized slices of bacon doesn't cut it. Shredded lettuce is a big no-no. Use bread with some body, sliced a little thicker than store loaf slices. Don't give me seed loaf, or some nature bread tougher than nails. A bread with flavor, sturdy enough to support a damp and slightly greasy sandwich.
ReplyDeleteThere's also a Grilled cheese BLT, which can be even better, if you use real cheese, and toast it bubbly and brown in spots.
Either way, BLT or GCBLT, toasted bread gets 4 full sized slices of thick cut slightly crispy bacon go on, 2 good sized pieces of iceberg lettuce - not the white part from the bottom! - and a 3/8" thick slice of a fresh large meaty tomato, not overripe or liquid, blotted slightly dry on paper towels, and slathered with actual mayo. Chips and pickles on the side.
Tony's on Burch Run off of I-75 north of Flint Michigan has a BLT w/ 1 lb of bacon. I get one every time I travel that way. My 6' 4" 250lb son couldn't finish their 12 egg omelet. Broke his heart.
ReplyDeleteCracker Barrel has become a disaster. Poor service, incredibly long wait times, dining rooms with 3 out of four sections closed, terrible food. Used to be a go-to; now it's run-away.
