This drone shit is getting out of control...

Nobody knows - yet - who the jerkoff was that was flying a drone so close to a fire fighting plane yesterday, but ya can only hope somebody beats the fuckin' snopt outta the idiot. The plane did manage to land safely, but it is grounded for inspections.
The incident occurred on Thursday, the third day of the wildfire burning in Los Angeles County. The aircraft, a Canadair CL-415 ‘Super Scooper’, was grounded after the collision. The inflight impact with the drone resulted in a hole in the leading edge of the aircraft’s wing. Here a short video of the plane in action - they appear to be fairly effective...

  1. About 10 years ago I sat on my back patio watching a line of wildfire roaring through the Horse Heaven Hills only a mile from my home. I filled up my gas tank in case we had to didi and went up to see what was happening. Got to the highway and it was blocked by the cops. They told me things were getting in hand, but they had no e.t.a. for reopening. Just then, a plane swooped in and dropped red fire retardant on the hills and across the road. Knocked that fire right down. I went home and sat watching the show. Seemed everything quieted down, but about 30 minutes later the smoke billowed up and I saw fire over by the road. I went up to the intersection again and the cops were in a panic ordering everyone out of the area. I went back home and, lo and behold, a backfire roared up the hillside at the wildfire line. Looked like a cavalry charge! Where they met, the fires died. Real good work. Next day a Rome plow dug a fire break that is still visible to this day. The land and roads were red for years, but not anymore. Exciting, but I'll pass on it next time...
