I don't know about where you live, but for residents of Florida, driving is a bit unusual. As a visitor, you may believe that turn signals are optional here—they are not. You might think that the left lane is no longer for passing in this state—it still is. Maybe you think it’s perfectly legal to drive with faulty brake lights (since every car seems to be missing at least one). It isn’t. Although law enforcement might be more lenient with these habits, one remains inexcusable: drinking and driving.
Florida law prohibits drivers from consuming or even possessing an open container of alcohol while operating a vehicle. This applies even if the vehicle is parked or stopped on the roadway. However, passengers are also subject to these rules — so no taking shots while riding shotgun. Luckily, someone who’s polishing off their drink is still allowed to get a ride home in a commercial vehicle like a bus or taxi cab (depending on the rules). Funny enough, a passenger in a motor home that’s over 21 feet long is also exempt. In addition, you can drink while sitting in your car as long as it’s parked on your own private property. All makes sense, don't it? Not really...

ReplyDeleteWait. Let me think this over...
Doesn't the SCROTUS have rules and ethics they have to follow? How much is she getting paid behind the scenes?
ReplyDeleteGet paid?? For what? You think she's ever going to render a decision that's not to the left of AOC?
DeleteFlorida did not have an open container law until 1988 when Big Brother stepped in.. Before then it was legal to drink while driving. Liquor stores everywhere in the state had drive thru service windows where patrons could buy a beer, wine or highball to go. The ABC liquor stores and others sold drivers shorty highballs to go for 49 cents. Now it is illegal to just hold an open beer while sitting in a parked car with the engine off.
ReplyDeleteI definitely do not remember that content warning...and, yeah, I'm old enough...
