Kamala got roasted last night at the Al Smith dinner in NYC, and for good reason. A Democrat presidential candidate should think of an all-catholic affair like that as a gift from the heavens. She didn't shape - but sent a video message instead, which was booed and sneared at. The last Dem to not show up at this dinner was Mondale - how'd that work out for him? As the night's host, Jim Gaffigan, said - “This is a room full of Catholics and Jews in New York City. This is a layup for the Democratic nominee,” he joked. “I mean, in her defense, I mean, she did find time to appear on the View, Howard Stern, Colbert, and the longtime staple of campaigning, the Call Her Daddy podcast.”

I stay in touch with through social media that I haven't seen face-to-face in 50+ years. If I saw them today I'd probably think I was seeing their parents instead of them. Most of these friends still call me Joey to this day. I'm 71 friggin' years old (well, Sunday I will be) and they still call me Joey. Go figure...

That's not the Vredefort asteroid crater in the image.
ReplyDeleteThe remains of the Vredefort crater can be seen at coordinates -27.020664, 27.466714 or https://maps.app.goo.gl/cmDGiL6dZA6DYXFv6
Vredefort translates to Peacefort in English.
An asteroid 200+miles in 'diameter"seems a bigger crater would be created than that. We keep hearing even a small asteroid would destroy a large area and change the climate.
DeleteI'm 76 but still feel 65 physically and 40 mentally so 71 isn't so bad.
ReplyDeleteI spent from Jan. 1972 until Feb. 1988 in the retail business. Much of that time, I was a buyer for several major department stores. Back then, most major cities had at least two if not more department stores. Heck, even smaller cities had a few. It is a bit disconcerting that you-all are posting such small sales percentages. Remember, other than a few national big box discounters, there was no internet commerce and only some mail-order.
ReplyDelete??? OK, 'back then' there was no competition for the local department stores, so they had pretty decent sales numbers. Now there IS competition, both in scope and price, and the department store model (you'll buy what we have) isn't working in the face of 'we got everything, whaddaya want?'. Very few people can't wait a day or three for something. Limited choice and no price competition is pretty much guaranteed to fail vs the internet store.
