  1. It was the right decision.
In the future though he'll have to ask for the DEI skin color of the terrorists and the DEI skin color of the victims before taking any action.

  2. Right or wrong he made a decision and stood by it. How many of today's 'officials' have the spine to do so? They seem more concerned about their popularity than doing the right thing. At any time a public official at any level should be willing to give up their entire career when the KNOW they're doing the thing.

  3. Met a guy, on a late October, 2001 flight out of Reagan National to Seattle, who worked for the Post Office. A friend of his worked for the FAA. This FAA guy told him that in the moments after the attacks the FAA sent out emergency requests for all aircraft in flight to switch their transponders to indicate that they were safe. About 100 pilots were so rattled by what was happening that they switched the transponders to indicate that they were being hijacked, code 7500. Can you imagine being in FAA HQ and seeing THAT on the reader boards? Cannot vouch for this story, it may well be recorded somewhere, but it is likely mostly true. Welcome to the new job, Mr. Sliney.

  4. You can argue all day long as to whether that was the right decision or not. But based on the dat a he had, I'd have made the same decision. At worst, it caused a great deal of inconvenience for a bunch of people. At best, it saved lives.

All you can do when it is your turn in the barrel is make the best call you have with the information you have in the time you have to make it.

  5. Good decision but President George Dubya Bush over ruled him in part and let the Saudi Arabians fly all over the country to collect Saudi people and fly them out of the USA while our own citizens were still grounded. They knew it was mostly Saudis who perpetrated the 9/11 attacks and flew Saudis of the USA in case there was backlash. But our own government did a good job of protecting the Saudis and scamming Americans. Even though it was mostly Saudis responsible for the terrorist attacks Dubya eventually invaded Iraq not Saudi Arabia.
