Honors where honors are due - and about time. Another black WWII veteran gets his long-deserved respect...

The US Navy will name its new destroyer after a
Second World War hero who saved 15 shipmates from shark-infested waters when their ship was sunk by the Japanese. Charles Jackson French was one of six Sailors who swam for hours to rescue all but 11 members of the USS Gregory's crew by towing them to safety on a raft.
French was recommended for the Navy Cross but was never awarded a medal for his bravery.
“Just tell me if I’m going the right way.” French called the words out to a raft of 15 injured sailors as he tied a rope around his waist and began to swim. He did so for nearly eight hours, swimming his way through shark-infested waters and into U.S. Navy history.

  1. Good. I have zero problems with his decision. Naming a ship after an actual hero beats the crap out of naming it after some woke POS moron.
