When cops can't do the jobs they're hired to do because there aren't enough of them...

The largest union for the LAPD wants cops to stop responding to more than 24 types of crimes, including illegal sidewalk vending, public urination, and dangerous dog complaints. As part of upcoming contract talks with the city, the Los Angeles Police Protective League will call for nonprofits or other public departments to handle those issues instead, leaving the already understaffed force to focus on more violent crimes.
The result of the changes would lead to more cases getting solved, the union says. and morale would be boosted in the process.

'Police officers are sent to too many calls that are better suited for unarmed service providers,' said Craig Lally, the union's president.
