The format of books just won’t interest them. Social media, video games, and quick online videos are all tough competition for the experience of reading a paper-and-ink book. Kids need adults to help them slow down a bit and set aside time to read, but parents - for the most part these days - think it's someone else's job to teach and care for their kids.
Kids who don’t like to read probably haven’t experienced the joy of getting lost in the magic of a story or learning something new about a favorite topic. So reading may feel like a lot of work for no particular reason.
Also - at the core of the problem is this - They’re struggling with basic reading skills. The process of learning to read isn’t easy, and some kids have more trouble with reading than others.

Another one bites the dust. Chevrolet announced Wednesday that production of the Camaro will end in January of next year. The move follows Dodge's plan to discontinue the Challenger at the end of 2023 and replace its V8 muscle car models with a vehicle based on the all-electric Charger Daytona SRT concept.
The current sixth-generation Camaro has been on sale since the 2016 model year and has fallen to a distant third behind the Challenger and Ford Mustang in the "pony car" sales race. Chevrolet, along with the rest of the General Motors brands, is working toward having an all-electric passenger car lineup by 2035.
The brand hasn't said if an internal combustion engine successor to the Camaro is in the works, but it did recently announce a $854 million investment in new V8 engines for its trucks and SUVs.

A California assembly member has introduced legislation that would ban processed food items that contain potentially harmful ingredients that are used in several brands of fruit cups, chewy candies and cookies and cakes.
Under Assembly Bill 418, Red Dye No. 3, as well as titanium dioxide, potassium bromate, brominated vegetable oil and propylparaben would be outlawed in the manufacturing, distribution or sale of foods in the state. The bill cites academic studies that link those ingredients to an increased risk of cancer in animals and negative impacts to children's behavior and the immune system and reproductive systems in rats.
"Californians shouldn't have to worry that the food they buy in their neighborhood grocery store might be full of dangerous additives or toxic chemicals," said Assembly member Jesse Gabriel, a Democrat. "This bill will correct for a concerning lack of federal oversight and help protect our kids, public health, and the safety of our food supply."

Footage of antiquated Soviet tanks reportedly being transported across Russia has raised questions about high equipment losses faced by Moscow's forces fighting in Ukraine.
The open-source Conflict Intelligence Team reported that Russian battlefield losses are so high that Moscow is resorting to using seven decade-old armored vehicles to make up the shortfall.
