What do we have left when we lose our guitar heros?

From the Guardian -A member of the rock band Journey has served a fellow bandmate with a cease-and-desist order for performing their hit Don’t Stop Believin’ with several high-profile Republicans for Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago last month, calling the performance “harmful” to the band.
Keyboardist Jonathan Cain, guitarist Neal Schon and singer Steve Perry co-wrote the 1981 song, which returned to public consciousness 30 years later when it was used in the final episode of The Sopranos.
ause his wife, the televangelist Paula White-Cain, is the former US president’s spiritual advisor.
In November, Cain performed Don’t Stop Believin’ with Republicans Marjorie Taylor Greene, Kimberly Guilfoyle and Kari Lake for Trump at his Florida resort. On Wednesday, it was revealed by Variety that Schon’s attorney had issued a cease-and-desist letter to Cain over the performance.

If ya don't believe me, fuck the pop shit - skip to 2:08. I rest my case.

Say what you will about Journey, Schon is a fuckin' kick-ass slinger. I wish all of these people wouldn't pollute their music by making it political, no matter what..
If you wanna read the rest of the story, it's here:

  1. Seems like a C&D wouldn't stand up very well legally, if one of the co-authors is the person being served. And frankly, as long as the ASCAP fees are being paid, I doubt anyone can be halted from using the music. Like patents, I think copyright rights belong collectively and undivided to ALL the authors/inventors and can't be divvied up between them except through independent contract agreements. And music copyright has a system through ASCAP to offer that music to the public that only depends on the proper fees being paid.
