SCOTUS says you can carry a gun. NJ says says 'Go ahead and try'...

A Senate panel in a party-line vote Monday approved a controversial gun measure that would control where and how New Jerseyans can carry firearms, setting the stage for a pre-Christmas showdown in the Senate.
The bill - which would overhaul the process for obtaining a concealed carry permit, raise various firearm fees, and bar guns from a number of public locations - is New Jersey Democrats’ way of saying 'Stick your rulings up your ass' to the U.S. Supreme Court’s June decision that struck down a New York law that restricted concealed carry licenses.
“This bill is the best attempt that we’ve been able to come up with to meet that constitutional requirement but continue to safeguard the public from unnecessary guns out there. I mean, the New Jersey I grew up with, you just did not see guns,” Senate President Nicholas Scutari (D-Union) said.

If (more likely when) the bill reaches Gov. Phil Murphy’s desk and is signed there, gun rights campaigners have warned they will lodge legal challenges against the legislation on constitutional grounds.
In defending the Law as written, Scutari said. “This is going to be challenged - there’s no doubt, but we believe that it’s struck the right balance, and it will meet constitutional muster.”
The bill calls for tenfold increases to the cost of handgun purchase and firearms purchaser ID card applications, which would cost $20 and $50 under the bill.
Concealed carry permit applications would see the largest raw price increases, rising from $50 to $200.

Young kids - and kids in general - today will never understand how
important
having on of these machines nearby was so important to our Dads. If the TV did go 'on the Fritz' as my old man would say, being the semi-control freak he was, would take every single tube out of the back of the set and bring it, in our case, to Weber's hardware Store on Mt. Prospect Avenue, where old man Weber had the world's largest selection of replacement tubes. I do not believe that any mother anywhere at that time ever had to deal with this issue, but maybe that's a story for another day...

See what I'm constantly bitching about with the cartoons that they have in NewYorker magazine - and for that matter most cartoons today? What part of this is in any way, shape or form, either funny or even moderately entertaining? It's just fuckin' stupid. I guess that's what this whole GenZ thing is about - projecting their own dullness and perfecting their lack of humor. Fuck it.

Where You CAN’T Carry a Gun in New Jersey
You cannot take firearms into state or parks, casinos, schools, universities, colleges, or federally prohibited areas, such as federal courthouses, buildings, prisons, and other places the government rents or uses. Also off-limits are national cemeteries, military bases (unless they are in the military), federal dams, Amtrak trains, post offices, national parks, ferries to national monuments, and Indian reservations. Moreover, federal rules supersede state and local carry rules regardless of the state.

Governor Phil Murphy is making efforts to support banning guns in places with significant amounts of people in a relatively compact space, including arenas, amusement and theme parks, stadiums, restaurants serving alcohol, bars, and various public transportation locations. Also included in the list are hospitals and medical facilities, daycares and child care settings, nursing homes caring for the elderly. Then there are government and political settings that may become part of the prohibited places for carrying firearms in New Jersey, which include voting places, police stations, courthouses, and other government buildings.

While residences immediately come to mind, the Governor said this encompasses shopping malls, churches, synagogues and other places of worship as well. He requested that all of New Jersey’s many state agencies, offices, divisions, and departments assist in assembling information and options for further expanding the state’s current restrictions and regulations on firearms, including adding to the list of banned gun carry locations.

  1. I see what you did, posting NJ gun laws following a pic from Christmas in 54. I like subtle.

  2. According to this guy, Murphy signed the gun bill. Merry Christmas, New Jersey gun owners! It looks like you can still carry in NJ, if you stand very still in your living room.

A Calvin and Hobbes with no dialogue is still a Calvin, right?
