Where did all the teachers go?

It's a good idea, but it's about a couple days late and a shitload of dollars short. In an effort to fill it's teacher gap, one of the largest districts in the state will offer a signing bonus to new teachers.
The Paterson (a genuine shit-hole of a town run by libs) school district ended the 2021-22 school year with 240 vacancies but filled 72 positions over the summer by holding five teacher job fairs.
As of Aug. 25 - the last time they reported numbers - the district still had a total of 168 vacancies. Forty-six of those openings are anticipated openings through resignations and retirements.
To fill the remaining positions, the Board of Education approved a plan to offer new teachers a $7,500 signing bonus in exchange for a two-year commitment to the district.
The bonus will be paid in two installments with half of the bonus being paid in the staff member’s first year and the other half paid in the second year. “This is a tremendous step in helping the district fill its teaching vacancies, and I thank the Board of Education commissioners for agreeing to this measure that adds another reason why job-seeking educators in New Jersey should apply to Paterson Public Schools,” said Superintendent Eileen F. Shafer.

The average Public School Teacher salary in New Jersey is $61,133 as of August 29, 2022, but the range typically falls between $51,059 and $74,536. Salary ranges can vary widely depending on the city and many other important factors, including education, certifications, additional skills and the number of years someone is willing to tolerate the bullshit that goes on in every school these days.

  1. Ah, Paterson. Spent my first 13 years there in the 50's. Wonderful city. No less than 5 movie theaters. Stores like Meyer Brothers and Quackenbush. Chili dogs from Toby's or Falls View. Collected soda bottles for the deposits so I could pay the 55 cents for a Saturday at the movies. For 25 cents, a bus could take me to Palisades Park. All gone now..
