The State Law Library of Iowa has been named one of the most impressive and beautiful libraries in the world. The Legal Library moved to its current location on the second floor of the State Capitol Building in 1886. The large "Victorian-style" library hall is adorned with a finely decorated tile floor that is adorned by the richly painted ceiling and stained glass inserts.
Standing 45 feet high, the entire library is flanked by niches clad in books. Two wrought iron staircases and lace at opposite ends of the library connect the four levels flanked by shelves full of books; approximately 105,000 volumes in total.
The two stairs (one at the north end and one at the south end) were built between 1882 and 1883 by Haugh, Ketchum and Company of Indianapolis. While iron might seem like a common material choice, it was relatively new to architectural design at the time of construction. Stairs now allow you to move up and down for the Beautifully decorated balconies.

Hundreds of riders rolled through Philadelphia Saturday for the fourteenth annual Naked Bike Ride, a clothing-optional jaunt from Fairmount Park down to Passyunk Avenue and back up to Northern Liberties.
With a mantra of “bare as you dare,” the event encourages creative dressing with as little clothing as desired - think novelty boxer shorts, lacy bras, colorful tutus, and plenty of body paint.
The Philly edition began in 2009 as part of the World Naked Bike Ride movement, a protest-slash-celebration that advocates for body positivity, a lower reliance on fossil fuels, and cyclist-friendly streets. Rides typically take place in cities throughout the summer, from Chicago (which was dubbed the best city for biking in the nude) to Boston and St. Louis.
In Philadelphia, the afternoon kicked off in a secluded section of Fairmount Park’s Lemon Hill, where participants were able to disrobe, mingle, and lather on sunscreen without too many unaffiliated, clothed spectators. Just before the ride began at 5 p.m., some bikers lined up for free body painting, while others had photoshoots in coordinated costumes.
Participants rode down 19th Street and Broad Street in varying states of undress, perplexing and delighting onlookers in cars, at streeteries, and on early evening walks. Fans lined up to see the emo band Los Campesinos perform at Union Transfer even got an eyeful as the semi-naked brigade turned up Spring Garden Street around sunset.
The 12-mile ride concluded with a clothing-optional dance party at Northern Liberties music venue the Fillmore, complete with food from women-owned businesses like Juana Tamale and nicecream cart Vannah Banana.

Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold claimed Republicans plan to attack Americans’ right to vote if they are able to win this year’s midterm elections. “What we can expect from the extreme Republicans running across this country is to undermine free and fair elections for the American people, strip Americans of the right to vote, refuse to address security breaches and, unfortunately, be more beholden to Mar-a-Lago than the American people,” the Colorado Democrat said during an interview with the Guardian.
Griswold pointed out that many Republicans in competitive elections have echoed claims made by former President Donald Trump that the 2020 election was fraudulent, while the 27 races for secretary of state around the country have become key showdowns for who will control the 2024 presidential election. For us, we are trying to save democracy,” Griswold claimed.
But some have accused the secretary of state of trying to reform election laws to benefit her defense of her seat. Her opponent, Republican nominee Pam Anderson, has made getting politics out of elections administration her campaign’s top pledge. “We must reject that it is partisan to protect the right to vote. It’s not,” Griswold said in response to the accusations. “It’s the most American and democratic thing you can do.”
Go right ahead. Keep electing shit-for-brains idiots like this broad and you'll vote yourself right in to communism, you fuckin' morons.
JEEZ FRIGGIN' LOUISE.

Doobie doobie do - or doobie don't. She doesn't
really care that much if I do or don't...
My wife doesn't give a shit if I get fired up when I can, but she isn't really into it for herself. She was back in the wayback machine 'good ole days', but laid off it a long time ago. Anyway, I had left half a blunt in the ashtray in the lanai, and for whatever reason, she took a hit or maybe two on a doob yesterday for the first time in probably 25 years.
This is how that manifested itself. This is my closet as it now appears.
It may never look like that again, so I had to share it with you...
A team from the UN nuclear watchdog is heading to Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant, the agency’s chief said, as Russia and Ukraine traded accusations of shelling in its vicinity, fuelling fears of a radiation disaster.
Captured by Russian troops in March but run by Ukrainian staff, Zaporizhzhia has a hotspot in a conflict that has settled into a war of attrition fought mainly in Ukraine’s east and south six months after Russia launched its invasion.
“We must protect the safety and security of Ukraine’s and Europe’s biggest nuclear facility,” tweeted Rafael Grossi, the director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

Movie attendance hasn't bounced back after the pandemic, leaving Hollywood struggling to lure audiences back into theaters.
So this Saturday, theaters around the country are offering tickets for just $3, part of the new National Cinema Day. Major chains like AMC and Regal are among those participating.
"This day is for movie lovers across the US, celebrating how movies are meant to be seen, on the big screen," said Ken Thewes, Regal's chief marketing officer, in a news release.
You should be able to find participating theaters in your area on the National Cinema Day website.
Last week, it was reported that Regal's parent company Cineworld was exploring options for bankruptcy after low admissions, and revenues at the US box office are still nearly 30% lower than before the pandemic.

in re Jena Griswold: vote yourself right into Communism? We're already there.
ReplyDeleteHate to mention this, but the United States I've been living in during 2020-22 is just not the United States I lived in during 1950-52; Harry Truman (a Democrat) would have never considered, even in wartime, taking the actions that Brandon has
