The real, lasting effects are covid are biting us in the ass. And our wallets...

Shut down the economy and fuck with everybody's jobs for the better part of a year and a half, and this is what you get...

These flight delays are a perfect example of what happens when you close down businesses for bullshit reasons, and then dis-incentivise the employees to return to work. Worldwide, thousands of pilots and other essential airline worker were fired for not getting the vaccine or just plain retired because it made sense at the time. American Airlines - just the one company - has said they need nearly 1,000 pilots to get the schedule up and back to normal. There may not a be a 'normal' anymore...

Subway is giving away 1 million free sandwiches from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday to celebrate the launch of its Subway Series menu. The chain launched the menu with 12 new sandwiches last week and is calling the change "the most significant menu update in its nearly 60-year history."
The first 50 consumers to ask for the promotion at participating restaurants will get a free 6-inch Subway Series sub of their choice, the fine print says.
The giveaway runs for two hours local time or while supplies last. There's a limit of one per person and there are no substitutions, according to the fine print.

Postscript: I have eaten two bites of one half of one half of a Subway sandwich, which was made for me by some old lady with dirty hands fresh off the boat from New Delhi. If you ever see me in one of these places, I'm robbing it.

Can someone tell me why these motherfuckers think it's their job to ask me shit like this? The price of admission for playing with Fakebook is being assaulted with asinine, agenda-driven bullshit like this. Juss' sayin'...

On Tuesday, Kamala will request $600 million in funding for economic development and ocean resilience, which is intended to build on efforts that enable U.S. fishing-fleet access to the Pacific and combat the scourge of illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing.
The $600 million request to Congress will break down to $60 million per year for the next 10 years and builds on the 33-year-old South Pacific Tuna Treaty that is considered a cornerstone of political and economic cooperation between the U.S. and Pacific Islands.
The funding request is part of a group of actions Harris will announce when she participates virtually on Tuesday in the Pacific Islands Forum leaders’ meeting, hosted by forum chair Prime Minister Frank Bainimarama of Fiji.

A Hispanic journalist group rebuked First Lady Jill Biden after she said Latinos were as unique as “breakfast tacos” during a speech in San Antonio on Monday. Jill Biden was praising civil rights icon Raul Yzaguirre during the annual conference of UnidosUS when she made the bizarre compliment. Yzaguirre led the advocacy organization, which used to be known as the National Council of La Raza, for three decades.
“Raul helped build this organization with the understanding that the diversity of this community - as distinct as the bodegas of the Bronx, as beautiful as the blossoms of Miami, and as unique as the breakfast tacos here in San Antonio - is your strength,” Biden said. When addressing the Bronx bodegas though, she mispronounced the convenience stores and said “bogedas.”
The National Association of Hispanic Journalists panned the remarks, stating, “We are not tacos."

The Secret Service confirmed Monday that it is aware of reports that the contents of Hunter Biden’s iCloud account were hacked over the weekend, exposing alleged texts, pictures, and videos of the president’s son doing drugs and engaging in other salacious and likely illegal activities.

The Secret Service said they are “aware” of the “social media posts and claims” about Biden, but are not in position to “make public comments on potential investigative actions,” in a statement.

Most of the loans on recently repossessed cars originated during 2020 and 2021, whereas origination dates are normally scattered because people fall on hard times at different times; loan-to-value ratios, or the amount financed relative to the value of the vehicle, are around 140%, versus a more normal 80%; and many of the loans were extended to buyers who had temporary pops in income during the pandemic.
Those monthly incomes fell—sometimes by half—as pandemic stimulus programs stopped, and now they look even worse on an inflation-adjusted basis and as the prices of basics in particular are climbing.
