Florida's governor has warned the 23 migrants who were transported from Texas to Washington DC not to travel to his state, telling them they should not expect a warm welcome from the Sunshine State. The group crossed into the United States from Mexico illegally, and were the first to accept Texas Governor Greg Abbott's offer of a free one-way ticket to DC. Abbott said it was a policy designed to show Joe Biden the scale of the problem, and 'take the border to him'. The first of the buses set off from Texas last weekend, and arrived in the nation's capital on Wednesday morning. Several of the migrants - who came from Colombia, Cuba, Nicaragua, and Venezuela - told Fox News they intended to travel on to Florida, where there is a large Hispanic community.
The Biden administration filed a lawsuit against the state of Texas, trying to stop enforcement of an order aimed at migrants that it calls “dangerous and unlawful.”
The order seeks to prevent anyone, except state or federal authorities, from transporting migrants who may have crossed the border illegally.
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott issued the executive order after authorities reportedly discovered a migrant family, being aided by the local Catholic Charities agency, at a fast-food restaurant.
The U.S. Department of Justice filed the suit to block the order, which gives troopers the ability to pull over and impound a vehicle, if needed, that is suspected of transporting migrants. The department also filed an emergency request to immediately stop its enforcement saying it would have “tremendous consequences.”
