There are entirely too many things that we
take for granted in our every day lives...
Stopping and smelling the roses is a good first step.
If the sun were to suddenly snuff out - just stop burning completely - we'd freeze to death in about 15 seconds. Does that explain why so many ancient civilizations worshiped the sun? They were afraid of freezing?
Nahhh. They knew what we too often forget. All life on earth - every single life form no matter how large or how small - owes it's existence to the gases burning on the sun.
... A quarter of Americans surveyed could not correctly answer that the Earth revolves around the sun and not the other way around, according to a report out last Friday from the National Science Foundation.
The survey of 2,200 people in the United States was conducted by the NSF in 2021 and released on Friday at an annual meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science meeting in Chicago.
To the question "Does the Earth go around the Sun, or does the Sun go around the Earth," 26 percent of those surveyed answered incorrectly.
In the same survey, just 39 percent answered correctly (true) that "The universe began with a huge explosion" and only 48 percent said "Human beings, as we know them today, developed from earlier species of animals."
Just over half understood that antibiotics are not effective against viruses.
As alarming as some of those deficits in science knowledge might appear, Americans fared better on several of the questions than similar, but older surveys of their Chinese and European counterparts.
Only 66 percent of people in a 2015 European Union poll answered the basic astronomy question correctly. However, both China and the EU fared significantly better (66 percent and 70 percent, respectively) on the question about human evolution.

Imagine what a spiteful bitch she must be...
Three years after he was arrested, Oscar-winning actor Cuba Gooding Jr. has pleaded guilty to forcibly touching a woman. He had been accused by several women of sexually groping them in various nightclubs and restaurants in 2018 and 2019.
In pleading guilty in one case, Gooding told the New York State Supreme Court judge he "kissed the waitress on the lips" without her consent. Gooding had previously pleaded not guilty.
The plea deal says he will be sentenced to get counseling but not to do jail time, according to the Associated Press. The report says he will be able to get his conviction reduced to a lesser violation if he complies with terms of the deal.
He pleaded guilty to allegations by one woman but the court had ruled that prosecutors could call two other women to testify against him. They were among 19 accusers that prosecutors said could talk about other alleged incidents. According to the AP, "his lawyers argued that overzealous prosecutors, caught up in the fervor of the #MeToo movement, are trying to turn 'commonplace gestures' or misunderstandings into crimes."

A group of migrants bused from Texas arrived in Washington, DC, on Wednesday morning, after Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said he would send willing migrants to the capital in a rebuke of President Joe Biden's border policies.
Five migrants who spoke to CNN said they were from Venezuela and had arrived at the US-Mexico border on Sunday. They are seeking asylum and were released from custody while they go through their immigration proceedings.
After being released, the migrants said they were offered a voluntary bus ride to DC. The bus parked outside of the building near the US Capitol that includes Fox News' DC bureau, where the network aired the migrants disembarking live.

Kershaw said he was cool with Manager Dave Roberts' decision to take him out of the game, but every other baseball fan in the world is batshit over this.
Even if you don't like Kershaw or the Dodgers, you have to appreciate the rarity of a 'perfect game' - 27 outs. No hits, no walks. 27 up, 27 down. It's the holy grail for every major league pitcher. Only 23 have ever been thrown in the history of baseball.
There is one manager still active in baseball who's taken not one, but two pitchers out of a game when they were perfect like Kershaw was yesterday. That manager? His name is Dave Roberts.

The valuations on these kinds of businesses are astronomical relative to their real revenues. They musta really pissed him off for him to wanna take it over.
I tweet, but I don't read it or follow anyone or anything. I think it's actually pretty worthless. The only reason I do Twit is to try to promote the blog...

Biden’s administration is extending the federal mask mandate for Americans traveling on commercial buses and flights while carrying out plans to end Chinese coronavirus restrictions for border crossers and illegal aliens.
On Wednesday, Biden’s Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced that the federal transportation mask mandate - which has been in place since 2020 - will remain in effect for at least two more weeks.
This all after the CDC has come out and said masks do nothing to prevent getting the virus.

Speed of light is 186,000 miles/sec. It would take 500 seconds just before we even knew the sun went out. And the darkness would start in the center of the sun and and move out to the edge.

DeleteEric Clapton tried to break up the Boyd-Harrison marriage, and Patty did move in with Clapton for a while.
ReplyDeleteDespite his enormous talent, Clapton was a gigantic asshole. There is a reason he was in so many different bands. No one could stand him.
The guy's a dick but he's still God, so there ya are...
