Are you jumping on the Toss-the-Vodka Bandwagon? Don't move too fast...

The widespread public anger at the Russian invasion of Ukraine has had a surprising consequence: a movement to ditch Russian vodka among consumers. Vodka, however, is produced all over the world and is the
best-selling spirit in the United States.
A Russian sounding name is no guarantee that the vodka is produced in Russia. Stolichnaya, for example, is a historic Russian brand owned by two different companies - one based in Russia, and one based in Luxembourg.
The Stolichnaya vodka you find in the US, for example, is made in Latvia. The parent company, SPI Group, is owned by Yuri Shefler, a Russian born businessman who left Russia and moved to the United Kingdom as a result of a dispute with the Kremlin. SPI Group sells 370 different brands of alcohol in some 170 countries around the world, although Stolichnaya is their best-known brand.
Starka is another brand that is made in both Poland and Russia.
The situation with Starka is even more complex because the term is also a generic one that is used to describe vodkas that have been aged in oak casks. Bull Run Starka Vodka, for example, is produced in Portland, Oregon. Slavianskaya Starka Vodka sounds Russian, but it is actually made in Estonia.
Romanov sounds like a Russian brand, but it is made in India. Bolskaya is made in Pakistan. Rachmaninoff and Zaranoff sound Russian, but they are German brands. Likewise, Nikolai and Orloff also sound Russian, but they are American brands.
Smirnoff was once a Russian vodka label, but the brand is now owned
by drink giant Diageo and is made all over the world. It is not, however, made in Russia.  Kaufmann doesn’t sound Russian, neither does Gold Symphony, but both are Russian brands and are produced in Russia.
