There are artists - and specific songs -
that I believe define the person I am today.
Here's just a few of them...
Certainly the single most important music of my life. This is the very first album - the first record of any kind - that I ever bought. I got it at S. Klein's on the Square in downtown Newark, NJ in 1967. I was 14.
...
The first time I ever got high. Also 1967.
...
...
And then there's this memory from my senior prom.
The first time I delved in to the confusing and complicated darkness (and magic) of a woman this was on in the background. Don't know how else to say it.
...
This was a game changer for me.
...
The woman hasn't been born yet who
doesn't like gifts of nice jewelry.
As it happens, I know someone
who makes that kinda stuff..

The first time I really fell in love? Most likely.
...
A great live version of the song that reminds me all of the time of the first girl who broke my heart. Don't sweat it - there were plenty of them, but we all remember the first one, don't we...
...
but I'll save that for another day.
...
Summer of '69 - the very first concert I ever went to.
Madison Square Garden.
What a wonderful memory - holy crap...
...
I have to include this one because my wife does
occasionally DOES read this blog and I'd get my
nuts crunched if I didn't include this.
Our wedding dance song...
...
I had an uncle who was a jazz drummer and he
turned me on to this when I was about 15 or so.
It's (the love of great jazz) been with me forever.
This was powerful stuff for a young kid
to digest. I'm glad I did.
...
This one's for a special occasion.

Michael Franks. The ultimate 'getting laid music' back in the day.
Any guy who couldn't get laid with this on in the background probably
became a priest or something worse...
...
Hell - there's a ton more I could put on here but you guys probably have your own favorites. Post 'em in the comments - let everyone know what you know.
