What will they say about this day 100 years from now?

Truly a sad day for the country, but we do persevere, don't we...

...
A slight remembrance of that fateful day:

I was working on a house in Manasquan, NJ, and had to go to Town Hall to pick up some permit updates. I heard there that something had happened but there was only one TV in the place and the Mayor's office door was locked so they couldn't get in to watch.

I hurried back to the jobsite - the house was right on First Avenue. The owner had the TV on and when I saw what happened, I went up on the beach (just around the corner) and this is an approximation of what we could see from there on the beach - nearly 60 miles away.

It was a crazy day.

If yer old like me, you might remember watching this on Saturday(?) mornings. I had no idea it was a religious show.
And, yes, I am still a moron.

Joe Biden said Thursday he hopes he can avoid getting “baited” into a “brawl” with President Trump when the two face off against each other in three general election debates in the coming weeks.

This has been a very popular item on the blog of late, and for good reason.

There's strange shit happening all over these days, so it makes sense. People have told me that not only are they buying them for themselves,  they're buying them for their kids, their girlfriends and their wives - even their parents, and for good reason. I think that's a great idea. Better safe than sorry is the best way to be these days...

There are a couple different strengths available here - find the one that's right for you:

It's not about common sense, is it?

A three-judge panel in Manhattan federal court voted to block President Trump’s memo that would bar undocumented immigrants from being counted in the nationwide census, according to court papers filed Thursday.

The decision blocks implementation of the memo Trump signed in July titled, “Excluding Illegal Aliens From the Apportionment Base Following the 2020 Census,” which directed the Commerce Secretary to give Trump information about undocumented immigrants so they could be exempt from the count.

In the ruling Thursday, the judges wrote the memo is a “violation of Congress’s delegation of its constitutional responsibility to count the whole number of persons in each State,” a tally that is then used to decide the number of House districts in each state.

The law says count everybody - not just the people who are supposed to be here, so there ya are.

This, my friends, is fuckin' brilliant...

More than 150 business leaders in New York City joined together on Thursday to warn Mayor Bill de Blasio that he needed to take more decisive action to address crime and other quality-of-life issues that they said were jeopardizing the city’s economic recovery. Chief executives of companies like Goldman Sachs, Vornado Realty Trust and JetBlue sent a letter to the mayor portraying a bleak assessment of life in New York City during the pandemic, and suggesting a vote of no confidence in the mayor’s ability to correct it.

The letter asserted that there was “widespread anxiety over public safety, cleanliness and other quality of life issues that are contributing to deteriorating conditions in commercial districts and neighborhoods across the five boroughs.” And if the mayor did not address those issues, the business leaders warned that people who have left the city would be slow to return because of legitimate concerns over “security and the livability of our communities.”

Honest to god I don't understand how these Howdy Doody muthafuckers get elected. I refuse to believe a majority of people are this fuckin' stupid,.

Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler on Thursday ordered city police to stop using tear gas to disperse ongoing protests in Oregon’s largest city. Wheeler, who was also gassed during a protest earlier this year, made the announcement saying “we need something different” to quell more than three months of nightly unrest in Portland following the May 25 police custody death of George Floyd in Minneapolis.

“It’s time for everyone to reduce the violence in our community,” the mayor said. “During the last hundred days Portland, Multnomah County, and state police have all relied on CS gas where there is a threat to life safety. We need something different. We need it now.”

I guess just about anything's better than a day in stir...

Like the story says, there's a serious coin shortage to go along with all the other Covid-related bullshit we gotta put up with.

Barb bought this set for me a few years back. This simple little thing is fuckin' brilliant. In each successive tray the holes get smaller. Ya pour all of the different coins in to the top tray and shake it. The coins fall through to the shelf they belong in.

It's relatively inexpensive and easy as shit to use.

New relief package unlikely before November after Democrats block slimmed-down GOP proposal

Hopes for a new stimulus package to help ease the economic stress of the pandemic before the November elections waned Thursday after Democrats blocked a slimmed-down coronavirus relief bill put forward by GOP leaders.

Many of the benefits created in the Cares Act passed by Congress in March have already expired, and about 29 million Americans drew jobless aid last week. You tell me this isn't all about politics and NOTHING to do with helping people. Throw every single one of these fuckin' scumbags out a window and start over.

I'll leave ya with this:
