The Gambler is gone

Singer, actor, ‘The Gambler’:
Kenny Rogers dies at 81

It's sad to see him go. I always thought he had a great personality. I also think that if he was tappin' Dolly back in the day the guy died with a smile on his face.

Walmart, Dollar Tree and 7-Eleven want to hire nearly 200,000 workers as the coronavirus pandemic continues

Walmart, the largest private employer in the United States, plans to hire 150,000 temporary workers by the end of May as the coronavirus pandemic continues to sweep through the country.

The company said it is hiring the associates to work in stores, clubs, distribution centers and fulfillment centers. "These roles will be temporary at first, but many will convert to permanent roles over time," Walmart said in a press release. "We've reached out to industry groups representing restaurants and hospitality to facilitate temporary roles that can be a bridge for their employees during this difficult time."

The company said it plans to expedite the application time from two weeks to 24 hours.

It is a two-year deal worth a guaranteed $50 million, according to ESPN.

Those terms are in line with what previous reports suggested the contract would look like after Brady revealed on Tuesday he would be leaving the New England Patriots after 20 years and six Super Bowl championships.

The 42-year-old’s contract also includes up to $9 million in incentives while preventing trades and free-agency tags being placed on Brady.

The tag restriction could mean Brady is thinking about playing beyond this contract. In the past, Brady has said he wants to play until he’s 45, despite all of his successes on the field and the $235 million he made from the Patriots.

Some people just shouldn't be allowed to living amongst us...

Despicable little scumbags

A group of teenagers filmed themselves coughing on produce at a Virginia grocery store and then posted the sick stunt to social media — a “disturbing trend” amid the coronavirus pandemic.

“We have learned that this appears to be a disturbing trend on social media across the country, and we ask for help from parents to discourage this behavior immediately,” Purcellville police said in a Facebook post Thursday. “We are asking for parental assistance in monitoring your teenagers’ activities, as well as their social media posts to avoid the increase of any further such incidents.”

The cops didn’t cite other specific incidents but urged parents to “talk with your children and explain to them why such behavior is wrong.” The grocery store, which was not mentioned by name, removed the befouled fruits and veggies. The teens remain at large.

Endangered New Zealand seabirds get a lift to safety after crash landing in fog

A Hutton’s shearwater chick rescued by a volunteer army in Kaikoura.
This thing is so goofy looking it looks fake.

A taxi driver in New Zealand has swapped drunken revellers for wayward seabirds in an attempt to halt the decline of one of the nation’s endangered species.

Local cabbie Toni Painting leads a volunteer army that scours the streets of the South Island town of Kaikoura in the middle of the night in search of Hutton’s shearwater chicks that crash-land onto the road – mistaking the shiny bitumen for the sea.

Painting was the first to spot the seabird chicks dazed and confused around town on foggy nights five years ago. Now she patrols each evening in fledgling season, collecting the wayward birds and delivering them to a nearby rehabilitation center, who then take them out to sea.

I just finished reading this.
If you like baseball as much as I do,
you'll really enjoy this.

Even before their epic pitching duel, Juan Marichal and Warren Spahn already had a lot in common. Future Hall of Famers with high-kicking deliveries, they were shaped into winners by character-building experiences in the military. Spahn had been baseball's winningest pitcher in the 1950s, and Marichal would be equally dominant in the 1960s. Marichal's and Spahn's incredible performances on July 2, 1963, would forever link their names together in baseball history.
