Hungry rats swarm New Orleans streets as coronavirus closes restaurants, bars...

With French Quarter bars and restaurants shuttered by a coronavirus lockdown, rats emboldened by hunger are swarming deserted New Orleans streets at night, WHTM reports.

“It’s driving our rodents crazy,” said Mayor LaToya Cantrell, reported WWL-TV.

In Louisiana, they celebrated Mardi Gras just as thuis pandemic mess was taking hold, more than 3,300 COVID-19 cases have been reported with more than 130 deaths, state officials say.

The state has ordered people to remain in their homes, closing down restaurants and bars in the famed French Quarter of New Orleans.

That makes it “a difficult time to be a rat,” since the rodents depend on dropped and discarded food to survive, said Claudia Regal, head of the local pest control board, CBS News reported.

This is the scene at the Florida state line as cars entering the state are stopped to ask occupants where they have been and where they are going. This is an effort to prevent people who have Coronavirus from entering the state. Commercial vehicles are exempt. If a vehicle is coming from Louisiana, occupants are told to self quarantine for 14 days.

The Coronavirus pathogen could have been spreading in humans for years, study says

The coronavirus that causes Covid-19 might have been quietly spreading among humans for years or even decades before the sudden outbreak that sparked a global health crisis, according to an investigation by some of the world’s top virus hunters.

Researchers from the United States, Britain and Australia looked at piles of data released by scientists around the world for clues about the virus’ evolutionary past, and found it might have made the jump from animal to humans long before the first detection in the central China city of Wuhan.

Though there could be other possibilities, the scientists said the coronavirus carried a unique mutation that was not found in suspected animal hosts, but was likely to occur during repeated, small-cluster infections in humans.

The guy on the right is a pitcher for the Yankees.

This might help explain Aroldis Chapman’s signature fastball.

The star Yankees closer looked like a fuckin' beast in a picture he shared to Instagram on Saturday, showing himself alongside a few friends playing dominoes.

Chapman, whose 105.1 mph fastball was the fastest pitch recorded by MLB, has spent some of baseball’s coronavirus-induced break bulking up, as shown by another social-media photo of the 32-year-old power lifting two weeks ago.

So it goes for Chapman, long-regarded as one of MLB’s best athletes — and not just because of his hulk-like muscles. A baseball insider once told The Post’s George King that the 6-foot-4, 215-lb Chapman beat speedster center fielder Billy Hamilton, who stands six feet and 160 pounds, in a 100-yard dash while the two were with the Cincinnati Reds in the mid-2010s. In 2017, YES Network shared video of Chapman doing impressive 1,000-lb leg presses.

While Chapman continues to stay fit, it remains to be seen when, or if baseball will return for the 2020 season. The virus has infected two Yankees minor leaguers and caused the suspensions of multiple professional sports leagues across the world.

Workers at Amazon’s Staten Island warehouse plan to strike Monday and demand that the facility be shut down and cleaned after one staffer there tested positive for the coronavirus.

Some 200 employees are expected to walk out at around 12:30 p.m. in protest of Amazon’s decision to keep the Bloomfield warehouse open for business as usual.

“We want the business closed down and sanitized before we return,” said Chris Smalls, a management assistant at the facility who is leading the walkout.

  1. Regarding Mojave Liquor. This is a very old photo, there has been a lot of development since it
was taken, but they are still open for business. It is near the old Andrews AFB in the city of
Mojave. It was probably built in the 50s, so I doubt Chuck Yeager ever bought his hooch there.
I live in the Victor Valley in a city I call Burnt Scrotum CA, and it is about a 90 minute drive
    from my place.
