Brian Cashman: Yankees did ‘everything we could’ to combat cheating Astros...
Brian Cashman said the Yankees had “concerns” about the Astros before Houston was found to have used an electronic sign-stealing scheme and the general manager added his team did what it could to stop their effectiveness.
“We’ve done our due diligence,’’ Cashman said Thursday night on YES Network’s “Yankees Hot Stove” in his first public comments since MLB commissioner Rob Manfred released his report about the scandal that has dominated the offseason.
“We tried to do everything we could — and have done everything we can — to protect our signs as much as possible and continue to evolve over the course of time because of concerns,’’ Cashman said.
MLB investigated after former Astros pitcher Mike Fiers said Houston was using a video camera to steal signs. Manfred suspended Houston manager A.J. Hinch and GM Jeff Luhnow for the year and fined the team $5 million while also stripping the Astros of their next two first- and second-round picks. Hinch and Luhnow were then fired by Astros owner Jim Crane.
Yankees might win 110 games this coming season.
CC Sabathia is a very large kinda guy, ain't he?

It's been cold here in Florida for the last few days, but not dragon-breath freezin'. Thankfully.
...
This would be just MY luck.
...
There aren't many things I miss about NJ, but it's kinda hard to find a really good dirty water dog down here. Up in Jersey there was a friggin' hot dog truck on every other street corner.
...
And just flat-out forget about finding a good pizza down here 'cause that just AIN'T gonna happen.
And even if you do find a halfway decent pie, none of these friggin' hillbillies sell slices. How can they live like this?
That's why I make my own, like I did last night. Pizza dough from Publix (actually VERY good) and the oven as hot as it'll get (around 560). The trick, really, is simple. Good, fresh ingredients, good dough, a hot oven and a good pizza stone that's seasoned properly, like mine is.
If you don't have a pizza stone of your own, ya really might wanna think about getting one. I mean fuck - it's not like they're expensive or hard to care for. You never even wash the thing for cripes sake.
Here's one just like mine. It's a good one for not a lot of dough (get off my shit - I hadda go there):

While you're on Amazon, get yerself one of these...

Damn - she's really cute.

Small town at the center of new dreadlock controversy
A Texas high school is in the spotlight after parents of two students said their sons face in-school suspension and other disciplinary action for refusing to cut their dreadlocks.
The controversy, which critics (mostly assholes but hey, they're 'critics') say is rooted in racial insensitivity and policies crafted by the school board in the majority white town, is the latest pertaining to natural black hairstyles that has emerged around the country. The district vehemently denies the accusations of racism and maintains that its policies, in place for 30 years, apply to all students regardless of race.
In September, a New Jersey referee was suspended after forcing a black teenager to cut his dreadlocks in order to participate in a wrestling match.
New York and California have passed legislation banning discrimination based on natural hairstyles -- an issue that has affected black people in school and in their places of employment. Sen. Cory Booker introduced federal legislation that would ban such discrimination.
Deandre Arnold is a student at Barbers Hill High School, a public school in Mont Belvieu, Texas, 30 miles east of Houston. His mother, Sandy, told ABC News that in December, the school told her that Deandre's hair has to be in dress code and "the only way it could be in dress code, I would have to cut it," she said -- the issue being the length of the dreadlocks.
At what point do we stop giving a fuck how someone wears their hair? Jeez - even I'm a little off center:
Yes. That's me. Got a problem with that Skippy?

Goldman to Refuse IPOs If All Directors Are White Straight men
The era of the white, all-male board is coming to an end.
Goldman Sachs Group Inc. Chief Executive Officer David Solomon issued the latest ultimatum Thursday from Davos. Wall Street's biggest underwriter of initial public offerings in the U.S. will no longer take a company public in the U.S. and Europe if it lacks a director who is either female or diverse.
The mandate is the latest in a series of signals that non-diverse boards and management are unacceptable. BlackRock Inc. and State Street Global Advisors are voting against directors at companies without a female director. Public companies with all-male boards based in California now face a $100,000 fine under a new state law.
“It’s pretty amazing,” said Fred Foulkes, a management professor at the Boston University Questrom School of Business. “It's a seismic change. I was quite amazed and I wonder what's going to happen at JPMorgan and Morgan Stanley.”
“Starting on July 1st in the U.S. and Europe, we’re not going to take a company public unless there's at least one diverse board candidate, with a focus on women,” Solomon told CNBC Thursday. He didn't mention Asia, which continues to lag behind other regions when it comes to board diversity.
Next year, the bank will raise the threshold to two diverse directors, Goldman said in a statement. The bank said the decision came after it learned more than 60 U.S. and European companies in the last two years went public without a woman or person of color on the board. Goldman Sachs has four women on its 11-member board.
Does anone else but me think this is the kinda bullshit that should NOT be 'corporate policy'?

Facebook will not allow me to share this. They do not like you at all.
ReplyDeleteIt's true Pete - I been banging heads with them for months. Reality is, it's not a 'community standards' issue at all. They don't/wouldn't/couldn't make money on it, so they don't allow linking. It's that simple. Best shot? I added a pic to the end of the blog entry that has the full address of the blog. You can save and post that if you'd like. I appreciate the effort - thanks!

ReplyDeleteAnd we see how much trouble that causes.
