In my day

I wonder if today's generation will remember their 'growing up music' as fondly as we do ours...

...

I was born in '53, so my mid-teen years were obviously the 60's. All my friends were listening to The Beatles, Stones, Monkees and Motown. I can honestly say - right now in the year 2020 - that I have never owned a Beatles or a Stones record. No need to - all we had was AM radio back in the day and they force fed that shit to us 24/7.

Billboard Year-End Hot 100 chart for 1968.

That mix is pretty emblematic of how diverse musical tastes were back in the day. Of the 10 songs on that list, I was interested in just three - The Rascals, Cream and Archie Bell & The Drells.

Damn they were good!
...

Cream was a different breed of cat all together.

In case you were born in a cave, Cream was a British rock band formed in London in 1966. The group consisted of bassist Jack Bruce, guitarist Eric Clapton, and drummer Ginger Baker. Bruce was the primary songwriter and vocalist, although Clapton and Baker also sang and contributed songs. At the time there was no one out there playing power-chord rock & blues. These guys were probably as influential as any other band I know of. Here's a taste:

...

This is today's TOP 10 as of yesterday from Billboard Magazine:

I've heard of Justin Beiber and Maroon 5. I didn't know he was still relevant. Maroon 5? The guy has a decent voice. That's it for that list.

So when these people are like me - in their 60's - and they're reminiscing about the 'good ole days...

Justin fuckin' Beiber will be their memory soundtrack? This dooshtool? Yikes.

South Carolina woman pleads guilty to poisoning husband with eye drops

A South Carolina woman who admitted to fatally poisoning her husband with eye drops was sentenced Thursday to 25 years in prison. Lana Sue Clayton, a former U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs nurse, was given her sentence after pleading guilty to manslaughter and tampering with a food or drug. She was initially charged with murder but accepted a plea deal.

Prosecutors said the 53-year-old said she gave her husband, Steven Clayton, drinks laced with Visine without his knowledge over three days in July 2018 at their home in Clover, near Charlotte, N.C.

FUCK. I didn't know you could kill someone with that stuff. Back in the day when we wanted to fuck with somebody we'd put a coupla drops of Visine in their beer or their soda and it would give 'em the shits for a day or so. Who knew?
...

Downward thrust. That's impressive.
...

That being said, this scares the shit outta me:

Sanders climbs, now tied with Biden among registered voters according to a new Reuters poll. Jeez....

NEW YORK (Reuters) - U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders has been steadily climbing in popularity this year and is now tied with former Vice President Joe Biden for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination among registered voters, according to a Reuters/Ipsos national poll.

The online poll, released Thursday, shows that 20% of registered Democrats and independents said they would back Sanders over 11 other candidates to run in the general election against President Donald Trump, an increase of 2 percentage points from a similar poll that ran last week.

Another 19% supported Biden, 12% said they would vote for Senator Elizabeth Warren, 9% backed former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and 6% said they would support Pete Buttigieg, the former mayor of South Bend, Indiana.

Sanders and Bloomberg have increased their level of support in each of the last three Reuters/Ipsos polls starting in mid-December, while support for Biden, Warren and Buttigieg has remained flat.

The poll also shows that about one in five potential primary voters remain undecided. And among those who have picked, nearly two out of three say they are open to changing their minds.

Iran rocket attack on Iraqi military base injured 11 US service members

Damage at Ain al-Asad air base in western Iraq, which housed U.S. and other foreign personnel.

Eleven U.S. troops were injured in the Iranian missile strike on two Iraqi bases housing U.S. troops earlier this month launched in retaliation for the killing of a top general.

Defense One reported Thursday that the U.S. service members were airlifted to Kuwait and Germany where they received treatment for traumatic brain injuries and underwent further tests.

Think they might need reminding?
...

They have the other services, too. This is the one I have:

  3. It doesn't matter how Bernie, Slow Joe or Miz Liz are polling, once the convention comes, the Super Delegates will decide everything.

And I'd SWEAR I've been by that Post Office before.

    1. Believe it or screw it, some say the supers will want a rematch - the Donald vs The Beast.

That would be funner than Gropin' Joe.

  4. I have 5 years on you and you missed '55 - '65, probably the best years in pop music.

Buddy Holly, Chuck Berry, the Drifters, Elvis, Fats. You can have '66 - '76 and a first round draft choice.

    80s weren't too bad, but...

News flash! It appears our President is a bit of a fibber...

Let's see: COVID, the economy, his son's business deals, what else could he have lied to us about? Biden has for years flatly denie...
