According to sleepfoundation.org, experts do not recommend using alcohol as a sleep aid. While many people report that alcohol helps them fall asleep, it ultimately compromises sleep quality and quantity by causing sleep disruptions later in the night. Moreover, heavy drinking and alcohol dependence are both associated with difficulty falling asleep.
Is a Nightcap Before Bed Still Okay?
While drinking alcohol before bedtime may help you feel relaxed and sleepy, enjoying a nightcap puts you at risk of experiencing repeated wakings and low-quality sleep later in the night.
Will a Small Amount of Alcohol Affect My Sleep?
The more alcohol your drink and the closer you drink it to bedtime, the stronger its effects will be. Depending on how your body metabolizes alcohol, consuming a small amount may or may not lead to sleep disruptions.

Following in the footsteps of heros...
The Tunnel to Towers Foundation’s 5K Run & Walk brought 30,000 runners to trace the footsteps of fallen FDNY hero Stephen Siller, who raced to the World Trade Center towers from Red Hook through the Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel on Sept. 11, 2001. Proceeds from the race help the 24-year-old foundation provide free homes to fallen first responders’ families with young children and build “smart homes” for injured veterans.
This is a truly unique, very well run charity. I try not to shill too often for organizations, but I've been a contributor to T2T for about eight years, and will remain so as long as I can - physically and financially. The generational and societal dynamics of halftime entertainment over the past number of years have shifted dramatically. I guess the most polite way of assessing it is to say it's definitely gone 'urban'.
The last five Super Bowl headliners are Bad Bunny (2026), Kendrick Lamar (2025), Usher (2024), Rihanna (2023), and the collective performance of Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J. Blige, and Kendrick Lamar (2022), none of whom are probably on your Spotify stream. I could phrase that differently, but then I'd lose the blog, if ya know what I mean.
Compare that to the first five headliners for the Super Bowl. It was a bit more mundane - kinda middle-of-the-road kinda stuff. It all started out as a mix of marching bands and instrumentalists: the University of Arizona Symphonic Marching Band, the Grambling State University Marching Band, trumpeter Al Hirt, and the Anaheim High School Ana-Hi-Steppers Drill Team for Super Bowl I (1967); the Grambling State Marching Band for Super Bowl II (1968); the Florida A&M University band and Miami-area high school bands for Super Bowl III (1969); and a special celebration including various entertainers like Marguerite Piazza, Doc Severinsen, Lionel Hampton, and Carol Channing, along with the Southern University Marching Band for Super Bowl IV (1970).

In 1982, Key West declared independence from the United States, declared war, and then immediately surrendered as a form of protest. This satirical act, known as the creation of the Conch Republic, was a response to the U.S. government's lack of action regarding Border Patrol roadblocks that were negatively impacting the island's tourism.
The "declaration of war" and subsequent surrender were intended to draw attention to their grievances and allow them to apply for foreign aid as a "conquered nation".
This unconventional approach successfully highlighted the impact of government policies on local communities and ultimately led to the removal of the roadblocks.

California Governor Gavin Newsom has announced a major move to ease the financial strain on households across the state. Starting this October (just before election day), over 11.5 million households will receive automatic refunds on their electricity bills through the California Climate Credit program.
Refunds will vary, with amounts ranging from $35 to $259. Most households can expect between $56 and $81, moneyt that will certainly come in handy for anyone tere who wants to buy a coupla ShakeShack burgers with fries. This follows a similar round of refunds issued earlier in the spring.
The credits apply to residential customers of Pacific Gas & Electric, San Diego Gas & Electric, Southern California Gas Company, and Southwest Gas.
The California Climate Credit program is part of the state’s greenhouse gas reduction effort, returning a portion of the funds collected through carbon pricing directly to residents - moneys that were already stolen from their own pockets. Since its launch in 2014, the program has refunded $14.6 billion to utility customers.
The state continues to push its clean energy agenda, costing California residents hundreds - if not thousands - of dollars every year. Residents are encouraged to visit the official California Climate Credit website to check eligibility for these upcoming refunds - as if it's worth their effort...

What myth can we shatter today?
Alcohol begins evaporating, or “cooking off,” as soon as it’s heated to 173 degrees F. But it doesn’t disappear instantaneously. According to studies by the USDA, it takes 15 minutes of constant simmering to eliminate just 60% of the alcohol present in a dish—and up to 2 1/2 hours to get rid of 95%. These times might vary slightly depending on the specific food the alcohol has been added to, as well as the size of the pan it's cooking in, but these variations aren’t great enough to make a huge difference in the overall picture.
Let’s be real, most of us aren't simmering a sauce for over two hours after we pour in the alcohol. Unless we're making beef bourguignon, chances are the booze is in the pan for considerably less than an hour before we pull it off the heat. In those cases, much of the alcohol is still there.
So, if you're not serving something elaborate like flaming saganaki
or flambeing to show off, there still a buzz in your Penne vodka...
