Florida has more problems than just Gators and hurricanes...

Ever seen a sinkhole? They come up (open up) without
warning and can swallow an entire house...

An aerial view of the sinkhole showed it is several feet wide and several feet deep. This one opened up in front of a house not far from mine. The sinkhole is located at the end of a driveway at the home in the Village of Springdale.
The home is located in Community Development District 4 where two homes were severely damaged by sinkholes in February 2018. Residents of CDD 4 were hit later that year with a 20 percent increase in their maintenance assessment to pay for repairs to infrastructure around that sinkhole site.

Community Watch is blocking traffic on
Wesley Street due to the sinkhole.

Words can hurt and they have meanings - unless you don't like the meaning...

Wikipedia has frozen edits to its page for "recession," halting a frenzy of changes to the entry after the Biden administration insisted that the U.S. economy has not entered a economic downturn.
The website's definition of recession was altered dozens of times over the course of 24 hours, in an apparent reaction to the White House's resistance to calling the current economy a recession.
New and unregistered users are no longer allowed to edit the page, which is currently "semi-protected" until Aug. 3.

All I can do is try to make you think for yourself.

The LAST thing I'd wanna do is do your thinking
for you. I got enough problems on my own...

Really don't mind if you sit this one out - my words but a whisper your deafness a SHOUT. I may make you feel but I can't make you think. Your sperm's in the gutter your love's in the sink. So you ride yourselves over the fields and you make all your animal deals and your wise men don't know how it feels - to be thick as a brick...

Really good photography can conjure a story

Something to ponder on your way to church this Sunday: EVERYTHING that happened in the Quran, The Torah and The Bible all took place within that little teenie, tiny circle. Why do you suppose that is?

Because we're idiots, that's why.
And don't kid yourself - the stupidity kicks in
at a really young age. Juss' sayin'...

This is incredible. Back in even the 80's - fourty years ago - this city was still the armpit of New Jersey. Corruption, crime, the whole nine yards. The only people still living there were the ones who couldn't find the exit. Now? Holy shit...
You’ve heard people complain about the notoriously high costs of living in New York City and San Francisco. But guess what - there’s somewhere else in the US that’s more expensive to live in.
The title now goes to none other than Jersey City, located right across the Hudson River from Manhattan. Yes. You heard that right. Sometimes referred to as the invisible sixth borough of New York City, rent there now averages $5,500, according to a report by the listing portal, Rent.
To compare, last month, the average rental price in Manhattan topped $5,000 for the first time in Big Apple history. The high rental rates in Jersey City could be justified by a rise of new luxury developments that have added to the city’s skyline, luring tenants from across the Hudson.
“Rental prices have surged across the United States during the pandemic, spurred by a spike in inflation and a wave of tenants moving farther from their urban offices as they settle into remote work,” Jon Leckie, a researcher at Rent, told the New York Times.

Leckie also explains how more renters have fled cities, like New York, and are opting for places like Jersey City — where there is more space, and as they become more comfortable with longer, but less frequent, commutes. Remote work continues to be a driving factor in this scenario.

How is this even possible? We are the greatest, most-productive country ever on the face of the earth, and these idiot bureaucrats can make this shit happen at a whim? That's just fuckin' crazy. What equally crazy is the fact that baby food is not regarded as a 'consumer product' as is normal food like canned corn or pasta. It's treated like a pharmaceutical and regulated by the FDA. Can you believe that shit?
The nationwide baby formula shortage has worsened with almost 70 percent of all brands reported out-of-stock, despite President Joe Biden's efforts to make infant milk more accessible.
Families in Rhode Island and Vermont have been hardest hit by the shortage with out-of-stock rates at 79 percent and 78 percent, respectively. Biden and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) have made it easier for foreign manufacturers to get shipments into the country, and appealed to companies such as Nestle and Reckitt to step up production.

French consumer goods company Danone on Wednesday said it had shipped more than 750,000 cans of its flagship Aptamil baby formula to the U.S. from Europe, with another 550,000 cans on the way. However, parents struggling to feed their children have slammed the administration, with one Louisiana mom alleging it seems like those in power 'just forgot' about the ongoing crisis. Amber Bergeron, who took to Facebook about the hardships of finding formula for her preemie twins, has described the ongoing crisis as 'disgusting,' noting she is 'sure these politicians' babies eat.'

And the sand-castle virtues are all swept away in the tidal destruction - the moral melee. The elastic retreat rings the close of play as the last wave uncovers the newfangled way. But your new shoes are worn at the heels and your suntan does rapidly peel and your wise men don't know how it feels to be thick as a brick.

As hurricane season hits its peak, Florida’s top emergency manager is warning of the potential for major electrical problems after a storm hits. “We’re in an area of which supply chain issues are becoming more and more of a problem,” Florida Division of Emergency Management Director Kevin Guthrie said.
Guthrie’s comments came as part of a presentation to the East Central Florida Regional Planning Council in Orlando last week. He relayed the concerns expressed to him by one of Florida’s power companies. After the first incident in the country, there will be a supply chain problem,” he said. “They will be able to get the power restored, but there are certain businesses or neighborhoods that may be on a generator power for months to years. That’s going to be problematic.”
“This is not a municipal utility issue. This is not a Florida-specific issue. This is a national issue,” Amy Zubaly said. Zubaly heads up the Florida Municipal Electric Association, which represents the common interests of Florida’s 33 public power companies. She said it is taking longer for utility companies to obtain “hurricane basics,” such as transformers, wire and poles.

I thought I'd never say this, but - 'Stay home, Nancy...'

China fired its most direct warning shot yet amid reports that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi may visit Taiwan on Friday, saying that if the speaker's plane is accompanied by U.S. fighter jets, they would not rule out shooting them down. 'If US fighter jets escort Pelosi's plane into Taiwan, it is invasion. The PLA has the right to forcibly dispel Pelosi's plane and the US fighter jets, including firing warning shots and making tactical movement of obstruction. If ineffective, then shoot them down,' Hu Xijin, a commentator with the Chinese state-affiliated Global Times, wrote on Twitter. Earlier China warned the U.S. against crossing a 'red line' as it released not-so-subtle warnings against the speaker, which China has reasoned is number three in line in U.S. government, from visiting Taiwan. The U.S. must be prepared to 'bear all consequences' if Pelosi chooses to visit Taiwan, Chinese foreign minister Zhao Lijian said in a briefing Friday.

We certainly wouldn't want anything to her to her, now would we...

National Security Spokesman John Kirby said Friday the Pentagon has seen no indication of a military threat.  'We just don't have any concrete indications of something happening from a military perspective on the Chinese part,' Kirby said.

Monkeypox has been declared an 'imminent threat to public health'
in New York because of the ongoing and rapid spread of the disease, health officials announced on Thursday.
The state leads the nation in confirmed cases, having recorded 1,247 of the 4,907 infections in America — with nearly all cases in and around New York City. State health commissioner Dr Mary Bassett said the declaration would 'free up' extra funding to help prevent the disease's spread.
It came the same day San Francisco officials said they would declare a 'local emergency' over monkeypox as its infection tally reached 241. No nationwide alert has been issued yet, although the Biden administration is considering the move.
A total of one-in-five Americans now fear they may catch monkeypox, a poll of 1,500 adults from the Annenberg Public Policy Center in Pennsylvania revealed today — as public concern over the disease which could spill into the wider population ticks up. That means up to 20% of the population doesn't have a clue about the virus.
Couple of things you might want to know about monkey pox:

  • Virtually no women have been infected with the virus.
  • It's transmitted through sexual contact with men.
  • It is primarily a gay-man's disease.
  • Only two children have been reported to have contracted the virus, and in both cases, the children live in homes where gay men are present.
  • I do NOT present this as homophobic or gay-bashing in any way, and will not allow comments that lean in that direction. This is purely for your information, kids...

Pass me that RediWhip - I wanna get high...

A Florida man suspected of inhaling nitrous oxide from a whipped cream dispenser before causing a fatal crash has pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide. Tucker Hoopengarner, 29, also admitted Wednesday to a charge of unlawful distribution of nitrous oxide, the Tampa Bay Times reported. The July 1, 2020, crash killed Jill Lawniczak, 53.
Investigators said Hoopengarner was speeding in rush hour traffic near Tampa when he veered into an oncoming lane and crashed into Lawniczak's Kia.
On the passenger-side floorboard of his SUV, investigators found a black commercial-grade whipped cream dispenser, which uses nitrous oxide cannisters as propellant, several spent cannisters and a box marked “XXX Platinum - 50 Triple Refined Cream Chargers." None of the law enforcement officers working the crash said Hoopengarner appeared to be under the influence of a substance. But he did appear “spaced out,” according to a search warrant application. A blood test taken after the crash detected marijuana, but yielded no other substances.
Though the evidence was thin, investigators alleged that Hoopengarner inhaled the gas and possibly went unconscious just before the crash. Nitrous oxide leaves the body within minutes, unlike alcohol and many drugs.

His defense attorney, Christopher Klemawesch, had argued the case should be dismissed, but on Wednesday, Hoopengarner took a plea deal. “I know he took it extremely seriously,” Klemawesch said. “I know it had a profound effect on him. I know he certainly wishes it had never happened.”
Prosecutors cited “reckless driving at a high rate of speed” in bringing the vehicular homicide charge. “His sentence is consistent with the law as well as the wishes of the victim’s family, and we are proud to achieve the justice they deserve,” Hillsborough State Attorney Andrew Warren said in a statement.

The judge sentenced Hoopengarner to six years in prison followed by 10 years of probation and 50 hours of community service.

Something to look forward to this weekend? Might help to be looking up...

Out-of-control Chinese rocket booster will hurtle back to Earth on Sunday and could hit land in inhabited areas - with 88% of the world’s population living under the re-entry zone...

An out-of-control Chinese rocket booster will hurtle back to Earth on Sunday – and could hit land in populated areas. The falling space debris is the result of the Long March 5B launch on July 24 to deliver the Wentian experiment module to China's Tiangong Space Station.
Weighing around 22 metric tons (about 48,500 lb), it's set to re-enter the Earth's atmosphere at 00:24 BST on Sunday, give or take 16 hours either way, according to Aerospace Corporation.
The US nonprofit, which is tracking the debris, has highlighted a huge area of Earth where the debris could fall, but said it's 'still too early' to know exactly where.
More than 88 per cent of the world’s population lives under the potential re-entry area, which spans all of Africa, India, Australia, Central America, and my house. With my luck, it'll land on my truck...

The Big Apple has gone backwards 40 years to the old Ed Koch days...

The Big Apple just can’t wash itself clean of this stain. The notorious squeegee men are back to their bad old ways terrorizing Midtown motorists — and aggressively demanding money for their shoddy, unsolicited services.
There was a crew of the wayward washers targeting vehicles at the congested West 40th Street and Ninth Avenue intersection on multiple occasions within the last week.
“Where are the cops? I mean, this is stressful enough, just driving in, that was like a shakedown!” New Jersey woman, who asked not to be named, said Tuesday just moments after a squeegee man suddenly approached her car. “How is this OK? He just kept saying, ‘I know you got some money! I know you got some money!'”
The panhandling window-washers approached several vehicles stopped at red lights — sudsing up windshields without warning and then harassing cash from the drivers.

In one instance, a squeegee man lifted up the wipers on a car with New Jersey plates and quickly sprayed soapy water across the windshield before the female driver even had a chance to say no.
