Just so ya know, Groundhogs don't know beans about the weather...

February is Black History Month, but sadly I'm not black, so I probably won't be doing too much histrionics this month.
It also marks the beginning of the end of winter. Hopefully...

Thankfully we're in to February. I think I heard some news guy say that this year's January was the coldest ever in North Central Florida history. There was one day when I swore it was gonna fuckin' snow. I have no more plants for the weather to kill. It got 'em all. Move along little weather doggy - I have a vegetable garden I gotta get started.

It's not only the end of a great run, it's also the end of civilization as I know it. Ozzy Osbourne announced the cancellation of his upcoming shows, and said his touring career is over because he “is not physically capable of it.”
In a statement released on Wednesday, the 74-year-old said he had a major accident four years ago in which he damaged his spine and that he can no longer cope with the travel required for a tour.
“My one and only purpose during this time has been to get back on stage,” he said. “My singing voice is fine. However, after three operations, stem cell treatments, endless physical therapy, and most recently groundbreaking Cybernics  Treatment, my body is still physically weak.”
A sad day for sure. This is the ringtone on my phone:

"A lot of people feel a sense of discomfort or shame when talking about sex because of social expectations, because they feel judged by others or because they are uncomfortable or unhappy about the decisions they have made in the past."

That may well be the most 'Gen Z' statement you'll ever hear.

Between Wednesday and Thursday, the "green comet"
will make its closest approach to Earth.

According to NASA, Comet C/2022 E3 ZTF will be about 2.4 light-minutes from our planet as it zooms on past. Just to prove how truly meaningless that quoted distance number is, I present this explanation I found:
A light minute is a measure of the distance light travels in one minute. That distance is 1.117886×10^7mx2.4. There are no minutes in a light minute.
There. Feel better?

They certainly don't make print ads like they usta. There is nothing 'digital' going on in this ad - all of the artwork was rendered by hand. When I was in the Agency business back in the 80's I knew and worked with a few dozen illustrators - most of which had different but complimentary styles. I almost have to believe that that way of making a living is gone, sadly, forever.

Where are the truckers and bouncers when you need them? These lefties need a beat-down...

Migrants (can we stop calling them that? They are illegal border crossers, and I don't give a fuck why they did it) who have landed in New York City are protesting the decision to send them from a midtown hotel to a ferry cruise terminal in Brooklyn by camping outside of their affluent lodgings. On Wednesday, the activists were out there serving the 'migrants' food including pizza, donuts, coffee, avocados and fruit while protecting them from the media with black umbrellas as bread was thrown at reporters.
Sergio Tupac Uzurin, an anti-NYPD and pro-migrant activist who attended Manhattan's exclusive Stuyvesant High School, earlier told a group of reporters and residents of the area around West 57th Street this week that the reason for the protest was that the 'cold' shelter was 'not meant to be inhabited' and that the beds are made of 'hard materials.'
The previous night, dozens of migrants were pictured sleeping out on the street in front of the hotel as temperatures plummeted to the 20s, followed by snowfall in the early hours of Wednesday.

PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. (CBS12) — A car elevator malfunction left a Ferrari hanging in an elevator shaft at a dealership in Palm Beach County.
Palm Beach County Fire Rescue said units responded to calls for help Tuesday night at the business on Okeechobee Boulevard. Once on scene, crews first had to handle a fuel leak which required them to cut power to the business.
Once the leak was dealt with, Special Operations and Kauff's Towing worked together to remove the car from the elevator shaft using multiple 50,000 pound winches.
It took crews around 4 hours to remove the car from the elevator shaft. There were no injuries. There was no report on how the 'malfunction' caused the car to get in to the elevator shaft, bit it's a safe bet somebody's gonna lose their day job...

 WUDDA FUCKING JOKE...

Gandhi and Hitler were friends. Wait, what?

Mahatma Gandhi made fervent appeals for peace in the run-up to World War II and during the course of it in numerous letters to world leaders, including one to Adolf Hitler eight days before Germany invaded Poland on September 1, 1939.
He reached out to Adolf Hitler, "the one person in the world who can prevent a war", as well as China's Gen Chiang Kai-Shek and also penned open letters to the Japanese, the Americans and the British.
On August 23, 1939, Mahatma Gandhi wrote to "dear friend" Hitler from his ashram in Wardha in Maharashtra, stating that people had been urging him to write to the Fuhrer for the "sake of humanity".
"It is quite clear that you are today the one person in the world who can prevent a war which may reduce humanity to the savage state. Must you pay that price for an object however worthy it may appear to you be? Will you listen to the appeal of one who has deliberately shunned the method of war not without considerable success? Any way I anticipate your forgiveness, if I have erred in writing to you."

He ends the letter with "I remain, Your sincere friend, M. K. Gandhi".

On September 1, 1939, Hitler invaded Poland, leading to the outbreak of World War II and changing the course of history. Britain, the US and the USSR were part of the Allied forces and Germany, Italy and Japan part of the Axis forces during World War II. Indian soldiers fought the war as part of the British India empire.
In his appeal to the Britons through a letter on July 3, 1940, he urges them to use nonviolent means to defeat the Nazis. While doing so, let them take whatever they want but not "your souls nor your minds", he writes.
"I would like you to lay down your arms you have, as being useless for saving you or humanity. You will invite Herr Hitler and Signor Mussolini to take what they want of the possession of your beautiful island, with your beautiful buildings. You will give all these, but neither your souls nor your minds.

We haven't heard peep one about these guys...

Or for that matter the Clintons, either. Doesn't it piss you off the double standards they have at DOJ and the FBI? They raid MaraLago with sirens and lights blaring in the pre-dawn hours and come up with nothing but it's all over the news (and the floor as we saw in the pictures) - but when the FBI goes to Biden's house just before the midterm elections and finds all kinds of classified shit in nine different places, we don't hear dick about it unti yesterday.
Jim Jordan needs to get up to speed bookoo quick to get these motherfuckers kicked out. Juss' sayin'...

Today is/was his birthday. When the movie first came out, the Catholic Church warned against seeing it and promised 'eternal damnation' for any Catholic who went to see the movie because he said the word 'damn' in this most famous line. Think about that for a minute...

At no time during his speech does he mention DJT a single tiime. This is exactly why perspective on news and issues is so important to both the story teller and the reader. The story teller wants you to hear it the way the want to influence you to think. It's your job as the reader to always bear in mind the source of the story and what their agenda might be. Capeesh?

I pay so little attention to Fakebook beyond sharing a 'Good morning' message with friends. Okay, occassionally I'll post what I'm eating or drinking, but mostly I ignore the really stupid shit. Like this.
I've been ragging on The New Yorker Magazine both there and here for how out of touch they are, and how genuinely un-funny their cartoons are any more.
Evidently, the algorithm-masters at Fakebook don't recognize the difference between just plain commenting and busting somebody's balls, so they wanted to give me this illustrious award. How fuckin' pithy is that?
PS: When this thing popped up on my wall, there was no way to comment on it, so I couldn't tell them to shove it up their collective asses. Juss' sayin'...

As we get older, we should be released from all that 'pressure'...

Pressure to perform, pressure to be good parents, pressure to be accepted in the community. All of it. They should be things of the past...

Of course, now I'm under a lot of pressure to figure out what I did with my reading glasses, trying to figure out why I walked in to the kitchen, and whether or not I changed my underwear yesterday.
And do I really have to shave today? It's not like I have to go in to the office any more. Where are the car keys? Honey - where's my wallet?

It's almost impossible for me to believe that this song was written and recorded 42 years ago. It was a collaboration with David Bowie and is credited to "Queen with David Bowie". According to Queen bass player John Deacon, Freddie Mercury did most of the songwriting on this, although everyone contributed. The lyrics deal with how pressure can destroy lives, but love can be the answer. I always thought it was about how hard it was for Freddie to finally come out of the closet.
Brian May recalled about the recording session: "It was hard, because you had four very precocious boys and David, who was precocious enough for all of us. David took over the song lyrically. Looking back, it's a great song but it should have been mixed differently. Freddie and David had a fierce battle over that."
David Bowie performed this with Annie Lennox at the 1992 "Concert For Life" in Wembley Stadium, London. The show was a tribute to Freddie Mercury, with proceeds going to AIDS causes. I know she's a nutjob, but I really do enjoy Annie Lennox' body of work. Her version of the song with Bowie at the Wembley tribute to Freddie is the better version of all of them.
