The sandhill cranes do not care about your schedule. They do not care about your minivan. They will cross this street at whatever pace they choose and you will wait, and you will be grateful for the experience.
Florida sandhill cranes have an absolutely legendary level of confidence for a bird. They walk through neighborhoods like they own the property, stop traffic without hesitation, and will stare down a full-size vehicle without blinking. Locals know the drill - you stop, you wait, you maybe take a photo, and you let the cranes complete their extremely important journey across the road at their own pace. This is Florida. The birds have seniority.
Thanks to Jaime Mille for the inspiration.
