Never heard of 'em, won't miss 'em, who's idea was that?

Salad and Go, the drive-thru chain that started in Arizona more than a decade ago, is closing all stores on Wednesday. The company made the announcement in an email sent to customers on Tuesday evening, citing “sustained pressure on consumer demand, past strategic growth challenges and rising costs.” “Today, Salad and Go announced that all Salad and Go locations will close permanently, with final guest service on Aug. 5, 2026,” the email said.
The fact that they survived through the whole COVID shutdown bullshit is surprising enough, but I wonder if that whole 'explosive diarrhea' thing contributed to their demise. Anyway, I wonder who the private equity geniuses were that thought this was a good idea and bankrolled the founders, who quit the company a long time ago. I must not be light enough in my loafers to grasp this whole concept, but seriously - there were people standing in a line at a place to pay a super-premium price for a bunch of rabbit food. It boggles the mind. Sorta...

I thought you'd like to see who was the original ‘Girl From Ipanema'. The song was released 60 years ago and believe it or not she was NOT invited to the opening ceremonies. That's impossible to even imagine.
This is Heloisa ‘Helo’ Pinheiro, the woman that inspired the classic bossa nova tune,. This is her - posing a few years ago for a picture in Sao Paulo, Brazil. THis was her ten years ago at the age of 79...
The quintessential Brazilian/Bosa Nova song was inspired by Pinheiro when she passed the songwriter - Jaoa Gilberto - in a beachside bar on the beach in Rio.
I had no idea Frank covered it.
Just doesn't come off as good.

What a wonderful (and frugal) thing this is, don'tcha think? Well guess what: Do you live in Colorado or Nevada? That water isn’t yours. You can’t have it. And you most certainly cannot set out a setup like this one to catch what falls from the sky, you thief. Water laws are so strict in these two states that rainwater collection is virtually prohibited. The doctrine is written into the state’s Constitutions. All the rain is already spoken for. It belongs to someone else, and that someone else isn’t you.
And politicians wonder why they are hated so vigorously by so many of us...

This hyper-realistic sculpture is created by artist Randall Rosenthal. The entire scene, including the "knife" and "vegetables," is carved from a single block of wood. Rosenthal specializes in creating illusory scenes that look indistinguishable from real objects. Google his name to see some more of the truly incredible things he creates. People like him fascinate me.

Doc Martin was a British sorta sitcom run on PBS. Very strange but great characters. This is an aerial of the town the show was filmed in - Port Isaac in Cornwall, England. This picturesque fishing village is situated on the rugged north coast of Cornwall.Cultural Significance: The village is famous for being the filming location for the television show, where it is referred to as Port Wenn. It is one of the oldest fishing harbours in Great Britain, with a history dating back centuries.

  1. Regarding the head life guard's pension: if that is the total amount of his pension, half a million isn't that much these days. If he's receiving that annually, that's a problem.

  2. its been my experience that liberals are the most snobbish folks out there. They are perfect and hate everyone who is not perfect like them. really dont know why they are called liberals since they are anything but.

  3. I get the whole argument about property taxes but here's the thing - you are (usually) living in a city with streets and other services that you use. Police, fire, street lights, etc. You shouldn't have to pay higher taxes though just because some person down at City Hall thinks your properly values have gone up. Thankfully where I live they gradually add various exemptions so that by the time you're 70-ish, you no longer have to pay the local school tax which is by far the largest chunk of annual assessments.

  4. Doc Martin was an asshole but his wife was hot. The secretary was the funniest. Watched for 5 years and it just got to be too much.

  7. Too bad that wood sculpture guy couldn't make something that actually was a benefit rather than another dust collecting knick knack.

Best Medicine is the American version of Doc Martin. Very well done, actually, which is odd for American versions of British comedy in particular. Martin Clunes, who played doc Martin, made a cameo in 2 or 3 episodes and Doc Best's father.

  11. What was shown as the school is actually a hotel. We stayed there a few years ago and ate in the pub they used in filming. A great place with lovely people. Ig you ever get a chance, go. The pasties and fish and chips are beyond belief.

  12. I've been to a salad to go in Arizona. It was price competitive to other fast food places. Their limited selection meant everyone in the car needed to want salad or you were stopping multiple places. Sorry to see them go.
