A grandfather was seriously injured when a charging bison chased him down and threw him high into the air. The incident at Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming was captured by Mike MacLeod, a professional photographer who had stopped to film the irritable bull bison at a campsite in the park.
After the man hit the ground, the bison stood directly over him, shaking its head aggressively. Fearing a fatal secondary goring, MacLeod stopped recording and ran toward the animal alongside several brave bystanders.
By screaming loudly and acting as intimidating as possible, they successfully distracted the bison and drove it away.
Park emergency medical personnel quickly arrived at the campground to administer first aid before transporting the man to a nearby hospital.
The victim and his grandson had also stopped at a distance to photograph the 900kg animal, but were then seen being chased and charged down. The victim was named in media reports as Carl Isom-McDaniel, a local official in Washington state in his mid-60s.
