Families of some of the victims killed in the September 11 attacks are demanding that New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani be barred from attending the 25th anniversary commemoration. A petition signed by relatives of hundreds of victims says Mamdani’s presence would send the wrong message at a ceremony that should be about remembrance, unity, and rejecting terror. The backlash is already turning what should be a solemn day into a political fight.
The petition points to Mamdani’s past comments and associations, including what critics say is a reluctance to clearly condemn phrases like “globalize the intifada.” It also cites his ties to people who have minimized the attacks or defended extremist rhetoric. In plain English, the families are saying they do not want someone they view as sympathetic to those ideas standing at a memorial for the people killed by terrorism.
One family member put it bluntly, saying, “This day is sacred to us,” and called Mamdani’s presence “deeply hurtful and inappropriate - like an unwelcome guest at a deeply personal ceremony.” Another said his attendance would be “disrespectful” to the families who lost loved ones. Those quotes show just how raw the pain remains, even 25 years later.
Mamdani’s office says he plans to attend, though he will not be speaking. Organizers say the mayor is one of several officials invited to the event. But for the families behind the petition, this is about more than invitations and protocol - it is about protecting the meaning of a day that changed America forever.

New York CITY SOLD their city to the assassins, so Mandani deserves to be there as the rightful victor.
If they aren't demanding that no Mossad, CIA, Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, etc be allowed to come, then they are still delusionally believing the official government lie that made patsies out of Muslims. Mamdani is truly horrible, as is Islam, but let's finally be honest about 9-11. I mean everyone is finally being honest about Fauxi and Covid after all.
